President Gitanas Nausėda says that the death of F. Latėnas was unexpected and painful.
According to the president, Lithuania has lost a talented personality that has contributed greatly to the development of theater culture.
“We knew F. Latėnas as a man of the theater, but the composer left a brilliant mark not only in the skies of Lithuanian culture, but also in diplomacy, political and social life. He was an active shaper of the cultural field, symbolizing the resurgence of the new independent Lithuanian culture, ”said G. Nausėda.
Seimas spokesperson Viktoras Pranckietis says that F. Latėnas was a legendary Lithuanian composer who left a lot to future generations.
‘F. Through her works, Latėnas not only contributed to the history of modern Lithuanian music, but also did everything possible to create an independent Lithuanian cultural sector and theater culture in it. Their vision and activities will continue to be the standards of quality and well-being for future generations, ”said the head of parliament.
Prime Minister Saulius Skvernelis highlighted his contribution to Lithuanian cultural policy, according to the Head of Government, F. Latėnas contributed to strategic decisions and the dissemination of art in the country and in the world.
“I sincerely sympathize with my loved ones, friends, all those who have been fortunate enough to meet this outstanding personality and see the bright light of talent,” the prime minister said.
Faustas Latėnas, winner of the National Prize for Culture and Art, died at the age of 65, and her daughter, actress Elžbieta Latėnaitė, announced her death on Facebook Wednesday night.
In 1989-1991, F. Latėnas was director of the Vilnius Puppet Theater, since 1996 he has been the director of the Lithuanian State Academic Drama Theater, in 1999-2000 he was the General Director of the National Drama Theater. In 2000-2004, together with the director Rimas Tuminas, he directed the Vilnius Small Theater.
In 1996 and 2004, F. Latėnas became Lithuanian Vice Minister of Culture, as well as Advisor to the Prime Minister and Attaché for Lithuanian Culture in Russia.
F. Latėnas has composed music for more than 200 performances, more than 40 documentaries and feature films.
