Starting Monday, May 4, if the ban on Lithuanian citizens leaving the country is lifted, Lithuanians will be able to leave easily, but it will be more difficult to do so. In addition, there will be a mandatory two-week self-isolation upon your return.
On Wednesday, after the government meeting, Prime Minister Saulius Skvernelis emphasized that permission to leave the country will not apply for tourism purposes. “I do not think it is advisable to travel to another country at this time, you need to know where you are going. Before we leave, let us consider where we are going or if we can return,” he said.
Despite these suggestions and warnings, tour operators continue to offer Lithuanians to buy leisure travel and escape to hot countries on May 12.
Tour operators operating in Lithuania offer to buy trips to Spain, Greece, Turkey and other countries on their websites. It is true that travel prices are much lower than usual at this time of year, just over 300 euros per person. However, those who are tempted by low prices should think carefully before buying a trip if they can really leave and then return on the proposed dates.

It is not yet clear when Lithuanians will be able to travel to southern European countries that have been particularly affected by COVID-19. With uncertainty over when the borders of all European countries will be opened, there is no mention of travel outside the Schengen area.
Regular passenger flights will continue at Vilnius airport starting May 13, as Lithuania and some European countries ease quarantine restrictions due to the coronavirus and the need for specific cross-border flights. The first two routes from Vilnius airport are Riga and Frankfurt. Charter flights outside the Schengen area, such as Turkey, have yet to be reported.
And tour operators have been offering to travel to Lithuania’s favorite Turkish resorts since May 12, although last week Turkey announced a timeline for when the quarantine should end, and tourists will be waiting from May 27.

The return to normal life in Turkey is planned in four stages, and the recovery of tourist activities will begin in the second stage, which will last three months.
In the second stage, from May 27 to August 31, it is planned to permanently lift restrictions on long-distance and international travel to open hotels. Initially, it is planned to renew transport links in the country, to revive local tourism (read about the lifting of restrictions in Turkey HERE).
Delphi He contacted the largest tour operators Novaturu and Tez Tour and asked if the trips they sold for May were possible. The representatives of the organizers mentioned above sent their comments to the Lithuanian Tourism Association (LTA), representing the country’s tourism representatives, and Milda Plepytė-Rainienė, LTA Executive Director, answered all questions.
She said that until it is clear exactly when the most popular and popular summer vacation destinations for Lithuanian travelers (Turkey, Greece, Bulgaria) will open their resorts for travelers.
“It is difficult to predict exactly what the summer vacation season will be like and when it will begin. In any case, the major tour operators are ready to resume operations as soon as it is safe to travel.” Delphi M. Plepytė-Rainienė said.
According to the organization’s representative, according to current recommendations from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Government, the planned trips will not take place until May 11.
“Taking care of the safety of the travelers, the tour operators, in the performance of their activities, follow the information of the responsible authorities. If the quarantine is extended for a longer period or if other circumstances prevail that prevent the tour operators from operating the flights will be responded to immediately We communicate with business partners and local authorities in host countries, monitor their planned actions regarding the opening of the season, decisions of other countries will determine our flight plans and possible corrections for next trips, “M. Plepytė-Rainienė said of the trips sold for May.
If the quarantine is extended, tourism reps promise to postpone customer trips or offer a travel voucher.
“To guarantee a safe trip, the organizers base their activities on the recommendations of the responsible authorities, first of all, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. It is she who recommends where it is safe to travel and which countries it is better not to visit.
Until the trip is secure, the trip will not take place and tour operators will allow you to postpone them or choose other alternatives, such as a travel voucher.
It is extremely difficult to predict the future, as it is not known how long the travel restrictions will last, so we can trust the decisions of the responsible authorities when canceling future trips. Currently, the quarantine in Lithuania, which restricts travel, is announced until May 11, therefore, travel is suspended until then. If the quarantine continues, we will react immediately, “said the LTA representative.
According to the interlocutor, the proposed phase of tourist revitalization of the Turkish government from May 27 to August 31. Representatives of hotels operating in the country also agree.
“The position of the partners of the tour operators in Turkey is in line with the information published by the Turkish government. According to them, firstly, at the beginning of the summer, the hotels will be gradually opened to provide local tourist services. Antalya is slated to be the first to accept international flights. The Turkish authorities are finalizing the health and safety procedures that hotels will need to follow to start operating. In the near future we will know how accurate they will be.
Certainly, not all hotels in Turkish resorts will be open as soon as international flights are allowed. In the first instance, only hotels that can meet the health and safety requirements of the Turkish government will have the right to open. This condition is also likely to generate additional costs for hotels to ensure the safety of tourists. Secondly, due to reduced tourist flows, some hotel chains do not plan to open all the hotels they manage in the summer. Until now, it is difficult to predict what percentage of Turkish hotels will be ready to accommodate vacationers. Perhaps the future can be more accurately predicted when hotels open and accommodate first-time tourists. “
