Due to the situation, the admission of new patients to Radviliškis Hospital is suspended and those who need urgent help are referred to other medical institutions. All patients in the Nursing and Support Care Unit are isolated. There are also 37 employees working in the departments of Nursing and Supportive Treatment and Reception-Emergencies.

Determining the primary source is difficult

What was the main source of the approach, specialists from the National Center for Public Health (NVSC) can not yet answer. All that is known is that the COVID-19 diagnosis was confirmed on Tuesday for the first two people who fell ill at Radviliškis Hospital: a doctor and a patient from the Department of Nursing and Supportive Treatment. As portal Delphi Justina Petravičienė, a specialist from the Internal Administration Division of the National Center for Public Health, said, both people experienced symptoms characteristic of COVID-19 disease, so it was decided to examine them.

“A doctor became ill with COVID-19 on Tuesday. The patient was diagnosed with the disease the same day. Yesterday, we reported a case to a doctor on Wednesday. Then 5 more positive tests were received, but they were not performed on Wednesday. Only yesterday completed the investigation and confirmed how the new cases – will be reflected in today’s statistics.

Yesterday we received information on three more positive tests, but our specialists failed to carry out these epidemiological studies yesterday, so today these 23 cases will not be reflected in the statistics, “said J. Petravičienė on Friday morning.

According to the expert, the circumstances of the infection are still not clear neither for the doctor nor for the patient, for whom COVID-19 was confirmed on Tuesday.

“The circumstances of the infection of the doctor working in the nursing and support department were identified as those that our specialists could not identify. Likewise, the circumstances of the patient’s infection were considered unknown.

Because the symptoms occurred at very similar times, it is very difficult to determine epidemiologically who was infected and who arrived first. If we could see that the symptoms started a day earlier alone, then it would be clear who is the first to get sick in this body. Now it is very difficult to determine. The circumstances of their infection were unknown and unrelated to how they had interacted with COVID-19 patients, returned from abroad, or traveled on their own. The infected people did not provide this information to our specialists and it was simply assessed that the circumstances of both infections are not yet known, ”explained J. Petravičienė.

So far, the interlocutor has not been able to specify how long the doctor has been working until he has symptoms.

After the first two cases were identified, the NVSC ordered a preventive examination of all staff and patients from the Radviliškis Hospital Municipality. In this way more cases were clarified.

“We have ordered the hospital to examine all staff and patients by PCR: taking a swab from the nasopharynx. So far, that process is ongoing and there is no more recent data, ”said J. Petravičienė.

So far, this fireplace appears to be local, not coming out of the institution.

Stops events

This prohibition is valid for the administration of the municipality of the district of Radviliškis, all municipal institutions and companies and other natural and legal persons organizing mass events, conferences, seminars, meetings, etc.

Violations found

After epidemiological inspections, violations were found at Radviliškis Hospital, which NVSC specialists ordered immediately removed.

According to the NVSC, there was inadequate separation of patient and staff flows at this treatment facility, and no shift groups were formed to provide treatment services to individual patients. The findings of the inspection are currently being prepared.

The hospital was instructed to organize the movement of the so-called “clean” and “dirty” flows in the hospital, to isolate patients in the Nursing and Supportive Treatment Unit that were not approved by COVID-19.

The medical institution should also ensure that only workers who do not show signs of acute upper respiratory disease or other illnesses, as well as workers who are not in mandatory isolation. The NVSC directed the hospital to ensure that all staff and patients underwent laboratory testing for the coronavirus using PCR – that is, taking a swab from the nasopharynx.

The hospital is also tasked with properly managing staff flows, reorganizing work as much as possible so that as many staff as possible are in safe contact with each other or not in contact.

In addition, it is instructed to ensure that patients who walk in the Nursing and Support Care Unit wear nasal and oral protective equipment (masks, respirators or other equipment) in common areas and change it regularly.

NVSC specialists instructed the hospital administration to correct the violations.
