He opened the motorsport season in Klaipeda: Domantas Jazdauskas, trapped in a swamp, thought the race was over

Due to the large number of participants, the outing of the motorcycle group was even divided into three parts. The strongest were the first to hear the judge’s shot.

Motorcycle sports returned to Klaipeda military training ground after the break. So the track was new to many athletes. The athletes drew attention to the very slimy sand of the military training ground during training. The route is complicated and completely different from the Rukla military training ground.

Depending on the class, the field trips lasted an hour, an hour and a half or two. The best athletes ran the longest.

The length of the route is 8 km, it was rich not only in viscous sand, but also in wet swamps and deep wells. In a word, a real Lithuanian Dakar, where the participants stumbled and fell. In the swamp, some participants were trapped for a few dozen minutes, but it was the sand that bothered them the most.

The biggest intrigue was Domantas Jazdauskas, the champion of the Lithuanian MX1 motocross class, who decided to also participate in this year’s Cross Country Championship. A total of 9 stages are planned. This is a symbolic step for Domantas towards the Dakar, because the athlete does not hide his dream of starting even in the most difficult marathon in the world.

Arūnas Gelažninkas, the fastest loner on the Dakar, did not start in Kairiai after the injury received in Dubai, he played the role of coach of the team.

The track was also evaluated positively by the Dakar four-wheeler, Laisvydas Kancius, who watched the competition from abroad. He trained a lot on this training ground, so he was amazed at how well the track was prepared for competition.

The fastest athletes

Domantas Jazdauskas was the fastest in the absolute motorcycle classification, breaking after the first corner. Domantas admitted that he found it more difficult to ride in a wet swampy area where many athletes fell.

“And they stopped me, I had to push the bike. For a moment I thought the race was over for me. But I managed to get the bike off the mound, so I am very happy with the result,” Domantas Jazdauskas said at the end.

Nerimantas Jucius finished his bite. Both athletes compete in both motocross and longer tracks.

Domantas Jazdauskas also won in the Open class. In the E1 class, Justas Kazakevičius was the fastest, coming back after the broken collarbone he suffered last year. Nerimantas Jucius won in the Enduro class.

Aivis Graudinš also became the winner in the ATV category, as if declaring that he is preparing to defend the champion title this year. It’s true that ATVs, which started after motorcycles, traveled a shorter route, as judges in this category canceled the insanely heavy swamp and forest sections. However, the athletes praised the organizers for their efforts to create an exciting competition.

After the competition, the 2020 Lithuanian Cross Country Champions Awards were held, because due to the pandemic, the planned awards event of the Lithuanian Motorcycle Sports Federation (LMSF) did not take place. Last year’s champions will be awarded after the first stage of each motorsport discipline: motocross, enduro, supermoto, road motorcycle ring.

April 10 The second stage of the Cross Country motorcycle is scheduled, it will take place in Vievis, Crazy Farm.
