During a visit to an East London school, William said that “the royal family is not racist.” He became the first member of the royal family to comment directly on the uproar the brother and his wife interviewed American talk show host Oprah Winfrey.
Buckingham House responded to Harry and Meghan’s allegations with a concise 61-word statement, but that didn’t quell the uproar.
William, who is second in line to the throne after his father, Prince Charles, says he has yet to speak to his brother after the interview.
“But I will,” he said.
Harry and Meghan’s comments shook the royal family and sparked a worldwide debate about racism, mental health and even the relationship between Britain and its former colonies.
These tensions only escalated as society waited for the Royal Family to react.
Meghan, whose father is white and her mother is black, said in an interview on CBS television Sunday that she was unprepared for life in the royal family and was even thinking about killing herself.
He also said the royal family was concerned if their firstborn Archie’s skin color would be too dark.
