According to the mayor, it is possible to try to forgive the crossing to people painted in black, but it is also important to protect the interests of the LGBT community. “Let’s not try to spiritualize or emphasize the wrongdoings of those people,” said R. Šimašius.
The mayor of the capital mentioned that there are and will be signs of respect for LGBT people in Vilnius, such as the color crossing: “This is important because it is obviously necessary.”
R. Šimašius invited all the people of Vilnius to feel safe and calm because, according to him, the city accepts everyone. “We love and respect people of all wills. And even those who are angrier, I very much hope that one day they will shine with an hour of joy and realize that other people’s joy, love, and happiness don’t really bother them. “
On Monday night in Vilnius, Pylimo Street, four people painted the crossing with black paint, which was repainted and updated with the colors of the LGBT flag. Back in 2018, this transition was in rainbow colors.
Ramūnas Matonis, head of the Communication Department of the Police Department, told tv3.lt that the police were informed about the crossing sprayed with black paint already after the incident. Officials received a total of two reports of the incident.
