Panevėžys Lietkabelis’s team was complemented this season by a young Gytis Masiulis, who has already managed to recommend himself with a great game in the Lithuanian Basketball League.
The 22-year-old 207cm heavy forward missed the first two friendly matches with an ankle injury, but appeared on the parquet on Friday in a duel with Riga VEF and immediately played solidly: in 18 minutes he scored 14 points (4/6 colones, 2/3 of three points) and scored 16 utility points.
In an interview with the website kklietkabelis.lt, Masiulis revealed the reasons why he wanted to move to Lietkabelis, as well as talking about the adaptation in the new team, the style of play and he promised a lot of thanks to the fans.
– Why did you choose the Lietkabelis offer?
– First of all about the coach. He had to compete against his team for two years and enjoyed the Lietkabelis game. I think it gets all basketball players into the game well, plus the ball moves well in attack. Another reason is the European Cup, because I wanted to try my luck in this tournament.
– Are Virtus and Lokomotiv waiting in the group scary?
– It’s really not scary. The group looks threatening, but we will fight with all our might and try to move on to the next stage.
– Do you think the season will develop at a normal pace?
– I hope everything is fine and happens as planned.
– Did you talk to the coach about your role?
– I spoke a lot with the coach and I really liked his basketball philosophy. That was what fascinated me about Chanak.
– You came to replace Sakiai who was a fan favorite and team leader. You’ll do fine?
– Of course, Šakičius left the big shoes, but I try to do my best, start with the defense and then we’ll see how it works. I hope to successfully join the team and everything will be fine.
– After finishing the season early in Lithuania, you managed to play in Germany. What did you get there?
– Be legionary because when you are a local player, things are different. When you go abroad, you step out of your comfort zone. I gained a lot of experience and a broader view of the world.
– How do you manage to join the Lietkabelis team?
– Really great. Before arriving, I met several players and had to compete with many of them. The atmosphere in the dressing room is really good.
– His career match was recorded just ahead of Lietkabelis (33 points, 46 points).
– Funny memories. It seemed like that day and with his foot he could put the ball into the basket while all the pitches fell. I’m glad I won that match. Hope something similar can be done in Lietkabelis.
– What game will Lietkabelis show?
– I think the team. We have many level players, so we will try to share the ball as much as possible. Of course, defense will be very important, because we are not the most talented in attack, but we should definitely work well in our basket.
– How are the jobs of other LKL summer teams?
– I think LKL has maintained a similar capacity to last year. All opponents will have to fight and there are no easy matches for anyone here.
– How could you introduce yourself to the fans?
– I am an energetic player on the field – I can shoot a triple, I can break and finish attacks with a shot Personality? Let the fans themselves form an opinion about me.
– How important was it to improve your shots from afar?
– Really important because it was my weakest point. I did a lot of work on it over the summer and I hope everything goes well.
