“This case is about a priest who currently lives and serves in the Archdiocese of Vilnius, is a priest of the Diocese of Telšiai. And the possible crime took place in Detroit, Michigan, United States, “Grush told reporters on Saturday.
The first information about a possible crime was received by the Archdiocese of Vilnius the day before yesterday. The priest himself denies the incident. Until the end of the process, the priest was dismissed. According to G. Grušas, no police actions have been taken against the priest.
“The charge in the court file is against priest Aloyz Volski when he served there. Accused of raping an 8-year-old boy for suppression through drug use. We were not aware of a possible crime until yesterday,” said G. Grušas.
The event took place in 2010. The first report held by the Archdiocese of Detroit was recorded in 2018.
Priest A. Volskis is currently retired from service pending trial. According to G. Grušas, A. Volskis himself claims that such a case could not have occurred.
“He is currently removed from priestly ministry until all legal procedures have been completed. The priest himself denies the allegations. We have no information in Vilnius or Telšiai that there have been any other crimes or accusations against priest Volskis,” said the Archbishop of Vilnius, adding that the priest feels wrongly accused.
At present, the court has not brought charges against A. Volskis. G. Grušas claims that the alleged priest has been serving in Lithuania since 2014, and since 2019 he has been fired for health problems.
“In February 2019, he was released from service due to a health problem and, without an official appointment at the Sanctuary of God’s Mercy, he was allowed to serve, celebrate Mass and hear confessions. As of today, he is abstaining from active duty, “said G. Grušas.
The Archbishop of Vilnius urges people with information about such or similar crimes that may have been committed by church servants to remain silent and communicate with the archdiocese.
