To curb the spread of the coronavirus in Lithuania, the requirement to wear masks at points of sale, public transport and some other public spaces was established. Such a decision will be made by the Government on Wednesday. It will take effect from that day.

The Cabinet approved the recommendation approved by the special government committee against coronavirus, which met on Monday, that it is appropriate to use two masks in two places, including shops and public transport, since the number of cases of COVID- 19 increases both in Lithuania and worldwide.

The economy must survive, the jobs must remain, the mons must work, go to work, so we must learn to live with safeguards. So with this decision, we are sending a signal to the business that we will no longer train their masses, because we are trying to stop the advance by other means. We hope that the introduction of these requirements does not increase the number of cases in Lithuania, said Elvinas Jankeviius, the Minister of Justice, who is replacing the Minister of Health during the holidays.

In recent days, the incidence of coronavirus in Lithuania, recorded on average in 14 days, has oscillated between 3.7 and 5.2 per thousand inhabitants.

The government has previously decided that if the number of cases increases to 5, it will consider repealing the mandatory use of masks in certain places. However, a new protocol resolution adopted on Wednesday stipulates that the issue of additional protection measures is being considered when taking the number of coronavirus cases per thousand inhabitants in two weeks 3.

In addition, the Ministry of Health is required to assess the need for additional restrictive measures on Monday of each week and to promptly submit appropriate proposals for government meetings on Wednesday of that week.

E. Jankeviius, who is also currently the Chief Operating Officer at the Emergency Situations Center, will have to sign a special order in the coming days, which will name all the places where the masks will be required.

On Wednesday, the government made a decision on the mandatory use of masks in public places on weekends.

The use of a face mask in the country was mandatory for some time during the quarantine in the spring due to the threat of coronavirus. The quarantine is no longer in force since June 17, so until now the masks have been recommended.
