However, optimistic news came from Britain on Monday that early research on the COVID-19 vaccine by the University of Oxford and pharmaceutical mogul AstraZeneca shows that the vaccine is eliciting a strong immune response in older people.
So far, there is no need to rejoice, although the immune response of older people to the new vaccine is positive, this does not mean that the vaccine is safe and effective for these people.
The Finacial Times quotes those familiar with the study’s results as claiming that the vaccine releases protective antibodies and lymphocytes in the elderly. This vaccine has recently been reported to elicit a strong immune response in healthy adults ages 18 to 55 and is sustained for at least 56 days.
However, there is no need to rejoice so far, although the immune response of older people to the new vaccine is positive, this does not mean that the vaccine will be safe and effective for these people. However, this signal gives hope, the British virologists convinced, but it will be necessary to wait until the end of the third phase of research.
These published results are confirmed by AstraZeneca, who said that the immune response was similar in both older and younger people, and that the side effects of the vaccine were weaker in older people with COVID-19.

Leaders of the British health system expect mass vaccines to be available in the first half of next year, but some groups of people may receive the vaccine earlier, before the end of this year.
