The leaders of all the political forces that have joined the Seimas are participating in the press conferences “Day after the elections” organized by the BNS news agency. You can see the press conferences here:

Will remain in opposition

In the multi-member constituency, 8 party candidates were elected to parliament on October 11, winning five more seats in the single-member constituency.

In the last elections, the LSDP won 17 seats, but the party split in the middle of the term.

“The Social Democrats seem to continue to oppose their strong electoral program. We will have a solid group. We consider the election results to be mediocre, after the first round we focused on the second round after a certain emotional decline and we managed to achieve as much as we did, ”said G. Paluckas.

He said the direction of the party’s renewal would not change as he saw “an expanded electoral base of young, progressive and progressive people” who are willing to join and help the party for the next four years.

“Peasants” – not the left

G. Paluckas promised that the Social Democratic Party would be represented in the Seimas. “It is very daring to call the LVŽS a classic left party, it is very far from the European left. That is why we see the Social Democrats as the only real European left party, which is why I see a lot of conflicts here, so we will not avoid a conflict of values like that, ”he said.

Rasa Budbergytė also recalled that three percent voted for separate social workers. Furthermore, Lithuania has seen an economic rebound over the past four years, so the public has a different perception of what the political parties are saying. However, no one knows what awaits them in the near future, so surely the Social Democrats will take those things into account.

“The Social Democrats will take the situation that day very seriously for the good of the welfare state, not just for things like human rights in that cultural sense, in the Western sense. I really believe that we will have the opportunity to present projects in the opposition that will receive support, “said R. Budbergytė.

And there are sensible ones among the conservatives

The leader of the LSDP rejected the accusations of the president of the “peasants” Ramūnas Karbauskis that in some counties they were not supported by the Social Democrats, but by the Conservatives, that there are also intelligent people among the Conservatives.

“We have never served and will not serve the ‘peasants’, whatever the reproaches, the two different parties have their own different tactics. We accepted your support somewhere, we supported you where it was needed, which allowed us to grow our group.

But in some places, where the candidate of the ‘peasants’ was very weak, and the Conservatives were competent and intelligent, strangely enough, but sometimes there are other sensible ones in the Conservative Party, that’s normal, ”said Paluckas.

She is smiling about her situation

Due to his situation in the Utena constituency, where he garnered the same votes as Edmundas Pupinis, G. Paluckas said he could only smile.

I am glad, at least, that I will go into the story as an example of qurestomatia of what a voice means.

I even smiled yesterday when I saw that there is a tie, it is a rarer case in the political system. I am happy at least with what will go down in history as a crestomatic example of what a voice means, ”said the LSDP leader.

He said he could not say what other opposition parties would do, but they promise to be constructive, support things that will be acceptable to them and will not start commissions to investigate past decisions.

Paluck has not yet been inclined to say whether he would like to become the leader of the opposition. And the rumors that he had already heard that the Liberals had nominated their candidates for Minister of the Environment and Economy and Innovation were called “going against the train.”

G. Paluckas assured that he did not care if R. Karbauskis would apologize or not, but it was really unpleasant for many Social Democrats to hear a lie about some party agreements with the Conservatives. In the shadow of R. Karbauskis, he also promised not to stay.

The health system is strained

Asked about the COVID-19 situation, the president of the LSDP mentioned that the health system is tense and should not be ignored. He also mentioned that nurses are now being trained in Lithuania by western countries because they are not staying here due to poor working conditions.

R.Budbergytė assured that the opposition will have to monitor the decisions of the new ruling majority in this area. As one of the most important things, he named the planned health services that cannot disappear due to the threat of the coronavirus.

This was also emphasized by G. Paluckas, who said that hospitals really can separate flows and provide necessary care to all patients who need it.

The Seimas elections were won by the Lithuanian Christian Democrats-National Union (TS-LKD), who are currently working in the opposition. According to preliminary data, the Conservatives won 50 seats. Together with the Liberal Movement and the Freedom Party, they aim to negotiate a ruling majority.
