Cardin grew up in the French industrial city of Saint-Etienne. At the age of 17 he worked as a tailor in Vichy and at that time he specialized in the creation of women’s suits.
After moving to Paris in 1947, Cardin created charming decorations and costumes for the film Beauty and the Beast in collaboration with the poet, artist and director Jean Cocteau.
After working with Christian Dior, he founded his own fashion house in 1950.

Mr. Cardino’s family was delighted that the artist “got caught early in the tide of globalization.”
