“The dynamics of the epidemic is exponential,” said the French Directorate General of Health.

The Office stated that 7,379 new cases had been detected in mainland France in the last day. There were 6,111 of them on Thursday and 5,429 on Wednesday.

These figures are the highest in France since the extension of the COVID-19 testing program. A few days ago the limit of four thousand cases per day was exceeded, and since then the number of infections has not stopped increasing.

The management said 4,535 coronavirus-infected patients were hospitalized on Friday, the same number as the day before. Of those recently admitted to hospitals, 387 are in serious condition.

To date, the COVID-19 epidemic in France has claimed 30,596 lives. With the intensification of the infection in Paris, a mandatory requirement to wear masks outdoors was introduced.

Previously, masks were mandatory on public transport, in closed public spaces and in some of the open spaces in Paris around tourist attractions where large numbers of people congregate.
