The communication expert, who disappeared from public view for several months, said he had time to reflect on the events.

“I was with the children for a week, with the family for two, for three weeks at sea, for two weeks with the children and I returned to Vilnius. I really liked it, it was a slow, quality time, then I had time to vent, reflect on the experience of the last two years, because the pace was very high and there was no time to stop, to think about what was happening here. I had enough time for myself, I am happier “, – A. Zabarauskas spoke on the program” Excellent losses “.

The interlocutor told the program that he likes “finite passages”.

He stated that he had set a goal to work alongside the country’s leader G. Nausėda during the first year of his term.

“Yes, the original idea was implemented at the end of May 2019, when we talked about more work, I told myself then that the first year would be the most difficult, because then the politician who became the candidate for president will receive more heat. “I made it a point to be close to myself for the first year,” he said.

A. Zabarauskas stated that, in his opinion, the first year of President G. Nausėda’s term was “a success with notable characteristics of defeats”.

“I would call it a success with notable traits of defeat. (…) Where the Presidency is now, as an institution, how the President expresses himself and pursues politics, in my head, is success. After the first annual report, a new sheet was translated, a new guide in the communication group. I think they will continue to perform the same functions ”, he assured.

“Naturally, after July 1, when I finished working in the Presidency, I constantly think about what has been done, what has been good and what is bad. Why was not emphasized the good and the bad gained more weight than objectively. Reflection is very important after each stage ”, said the interlocutor.

When asked who failed, A. Zabarauskas spoke for the first time about his relationship with the allies during the electoral campaign.

“I consider that one of my mistakes was not to continue successful cooperation with the candidate’s allies and supporters when he became head of state. Because suddenly all other tasks related to state affairs appeared and there was no time to maintain relations with the friends, it was a mistake, ”admitted the former head of G. Nausėda’s communication group.

A. Zabarauskas regretted that his logic and motives were not explained before the President’s performance.

“What eventually turned into misinterpretations of his actions and decisions, which could not be reversed later,” he said.

For some observers, Nausėda’s first term was sometimes hampered by the sometimes empty presidential agenda. A. Zabarauskas stated that those who mock that the president’s agenda is empty would also criticize the obvious works it contains.

“Events are put on the agenda, which are then discussed in the media, followed by a public statement: invited by the president or his adviser. (…) If everything was on the agenda, what would the president do? What is the main job of the president – make decisions. To do this, you need to convey an infinite amount of information through yourself, an infinite number of different and contradictory opinions.

If we put on the agenda that the president works with documents, becomes familiar with the law, consults with advisers. “That agenda would be very uniform, and all those who pour into empty pots that the head of the country’s agenda is empty would also make the president put things on the agenda,” he said.

The former head of G. Nausėda’s communication group said he would now go to the other side.

“Looking back now, I would probably go the other way. Now, seeing that this was a matter of national importance, I would speak to non-governmental organizations, such as Transparency International, that oversee public sector transparency issues, and follow their recommendations.” said A. Zabarauskas.

A. Zabarauskas, who worked in business communication for 14 years, said it was an advantage for him in politics.

“It is difficult to deny that before starting with political communication, I worked with business communication for 14 years, then I avoided politics, I was just an observer of it. Naturally, political communication tactics were perhaps less in my basket. But during the election, I did not consider it a disadvantage, but an advantage, “he said on the show.

The former head of the communications team said his opinion of people working in the public sector changed over the years.

“Many of my opinions changed while I was working there, about people who worked in the public service, as a former journalist and businessman I had a very skeptical and mocking opinion, which led me to a completely different opinion. Of those personalities who work hard, a thankless and degrading job. There are really a lot of very dedicated people there, ”said A. Zabarauskas.

He said that one of the conditions set by the Presidency was to speak about oneself, not to speak and not to blacken others.

“Once there was a political street fight, we found ourselves in a defensive position without blackmail. And then they began to accuse us – that a weak manager, a weak team, has no backbone. (…) There was a moment that could not be done – a small change in the culture of communication, ”said the communication expert.

The interlocutor stressed that it will not yet be possible to please everyone, so it is necessary to know exactly what is being done and why.

A. Zabarauskas evaluated the work in the Presidency as a very good solution.

“I came out of there with a better understanding of how the state works. (…) But I really appreciate my new look at civil service, I learned new things about myself, I was too satisfied with myself. I’m perfectly barefoot on the sidewalk, I really like it, “he said.
