However, until very recently he worked at the Alytus Correctional Center. A man who has never been convicted and has a higher education is today on the threshold of the courts, accused of complicity with criminals and degradation of an official.

Pursuant to the indictment, J. Liutkauskas, who was a civil servant at the time of the crime, was a senior inspector in the Alytus Correctional Center’s Protection and Supervision Division for property benefits indefinitely during the prior investigation to trial, but no later than May 2017. As an unidentified person during the investigation, he promised to take the latter to the Alytus Penitentiary Center for 140 euros and to hand over a mobile phone to the unidentified convict who is serving his sentence. Received the promised reward and a mobile phone at the post office, complied with the request.

That was just the beginning. According to the police, he brought several more mobile phones to the penitentiary in the same month and received a fee of 400 to 400 euros.

In August 2017, he received another package from Marijampolė at the post office, this time between 700 and 800 euros, a computer and a mobile phone. Thus, the amount of compensation continued to grow until, finally, the accused, according to the forces of order, agreed to take drugs to the penitentiary.

Agreed in advance with unidentified persons, he for 2.5 thousand. agreed to deliver a shipment of about 18 grams of heroin to the convict.

In September 2017, such a package was packed and sent to J. Liutkauskas with the help of another person by the second defendant in this case: Rimas Karčiauskas. The medications were packaged inside a Canyon external power supply body and shipped by mail. However, agents from the pre-trial investigation rushed to the post office faster than the actual recipient, picked up a package with an external power source containing heroin, and left another similar “hideout”, only without drugs.

“I reserve the right to remain silent, I will answer all questions in other hearings,” J. Liutkauskas, who is awaiting sentencing, promised the judge in the courtroom on August 4, when the case was being heard in court.

He did not speak out of guilt, whether he admitted it or not. The defendant agreed to testify, but promised to do so only after questioning other participants in the case.

R. Karčiauskas, who is in custody, repeated the same thing. It is true that he does not admit his guilt.

Born in 1989, a Vilnius resident has a high school education and is raising two young children. He is currently serving a prison sentence and should be released in February next year.

“Convicted 8 or 9 times. In 2007, for the first time, in 2018. last time. The final sentence is 6 years and 9 months, “admitted R. Karčiauskas when asked by the judge about the sentences.

According to the indictment, R. Karčiauskas is accused of illegally acquiring a large quantity of the drug from an unidentified person during the pre-trial investigation, about 18 grams of heroin, with the aim of distributing the drug at an unidentified location in September 2017. After packing it inside the Canyon external power supply case together with 2,500 euros to pay the superior inspector of the prison department J. Liutkauskas for taking the drug hidden inside the external power supply to the prison of Alytus and transfer it to an unidentified person serving a custodial sentence, to Alytus.

To do this, the accused used the services of another person who did not know anything about the crime.

As no witnesses were summoned to the first hearing, the case was postponed. The next meeting will take place on September 3.

Abuse is punishable by a fine or a prison term of up to seven years. For illegal possession of a large quantity of narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances: imprisonment of ten to fifteen years.

According to the police, J.Liutkauskas with such actions downplayed the image of the Alytus Correctional Center, discredited the name of a public official, and made a provision for convicts to influence officials.
