According to Delfi, under the current funding regime for technical sports, which, unlike Olympic sports, are considered less important, even after a miracle, such as a Lithuanian winning a Formula 1, MOTO GP or World Rally Championship (WRC), would not receive an award, nor a scholarship, but the Minister’s bottle and the Lithuanian tricolor and would in no way encourage funding from the federation. If Lithuania can develop its own Lewis Hamilton, Valentino Rossi or Carlos Sainz by supporting them with bottles, it is in that order.
Representatives of the technical sports federations raised this issue at the Seimas Sports and Youth Affairs Meeting, which was attended by the Olympic champion and president of the Lithuanian National Olympic Committee (LTOK) Daina Gudzinevičiūtė. It was his comments that received an extremely strict evaluation from Lithuanian motorsport masters.
“During the meeting, D. Gudzinevičiūtė said a couple of sentences, all of which, at least to some extent caught up in the situation, pull apart from the feet. It is said that “we have contracts with equipment manufacturers, so we do not need financing”, and “in technical sports, teams, not athletes” – quoted Mantas Matukaitis, the boss of the Dynami: t Energy Racing team, as the head of LTOK .
According to him, this means that basically anyone getting “off the street” and sitting in a fast sports car could show results similar to a racer. Such an opinion of D. Gudzinevičiūtė led M. Matukaitis to challenge her.
“Dear Song, Challenge you. I’ll let you drive some wheels on a Nemunas ring that collapses in a sports car. Then I’ll drive in the same car. According to you, the results should be similar, because the technique is the same. Will you accept the challenge? The broker asked on his Facebook account.
According to him, to make it even more interesting, it is worth making bets. Of course, in a round race, the delay of 1 second in a lap of the track is almost the same as losing the competition in basketball by 10 points, explained M. Matukaitis.
“So if you manage to be less than 1 second behind on your fastest lap, I will transfer 10,000 euros from our team’s budget to the LTOK account. If you are more behind, I will not ask you for anything. Just before you get behind the wheel, you will have to sign a contract that if you break the car, you will have to pay damages. Because, unfortunately, we do not have contracts with the equipment manufacturers and we finance everything ourselves, “suggested M. Matukaitis.
When Delfi contacted Mr. Gudzinevičiūtė, he mentioned that he did not see the proposed challenge and “did not play”.
The LTOK director was also surprised that the participants in the organized discussion as guests then took the sentences out of context and made them public.
According to D. Gudzinevičiūtė, when it comes to technical sports, it is not only the available technology that is important in them, but that this level undoubtedly influences the results, so the interviewee does not deny her opinion.
