The architectural idea is inseparable from the convenient functional planning of this building. The building is based on a stylobate, on which smaller volumes are placed, corresponding to certain functions: first the volumes of the large rooms are “assisted”, which form a solid building, and then the news department buildings, which act like binoculars watching current events.

The central hardware is installed in the center of the building, which acts as the brain of the building. A neutral connection with the existing building of the Lithuanian National Radio is being further developed: a glass volume is inserted, which performs the function of the main entrance.

Current events, news and events in Lithuania and in the world create a constant flow of information, which must be “sucked in” by LRT, which is why it was chosen to “catch” it with volumetric ceiling elements, targeting all parts of the world.

Meanwhile, at the intersection of Konarskio and Pietario streets, a wall screen is planned for live broadcasts, which can be seen by everyone heading towards Iron Wolf Street, one of the main arteries of the city. The LRT complex consists of four main volumes. Konarskio Street is made up of the existing listed building and the new L-shaped volume, which at the same time becomes the background of it.

A dark glass finish has been chosen for the long volume, as if a black stripe surrounds the space of the old LRT building and monument. The volume – the bar becomes a solid and exclusive accent, through which the main entrance and distribution of flows to the LRT complex is foreseen. Façade solutions for news service and content production volumes are open, openwork, vertical, and meet the standards of a modern office.

Above the content production studios, the crown of the characteristic silhouette of the ceilings is formed, in which the engineering equipment of the large rooms is hidden. The perforated openwork cardboard finish matches contextually with the clay tile roof of the old building.

The main objective was to highlight the importance of the existing radio building as a future public object, and to form the part of the newly designed complex as a background building. The newly designed complex is broken down step by step to reproduce the pulsation of Naujamiestis. To separate the protected building, a volumetric pause is formed between the two objects, distracting the new complex as much as possible and forming a wider public space around it.

Such a solution also makes it possible to form an additional connection with part B of the plot. The volume of the new complex is divided into four axes, which serve not only as the main communication links, but also give dynamics to the fifth facade and visually divide the massive volume into the closest building sizes of the Naujamiestis district.

Such a solution creates a volumetric composition that would look like a wall of screens, while repeating the urban urban pulsation characteristic of Naujamiestis. It also allows atriums to be formed that emphasize the functional division of the building and allow as much natural light as possible to enter the work areas.

Company 17 – DEVICE: FORUM1

The program of the new LRT headquarters is divided into four volumes arranged in a chess way, connecting with the existing Lithuanian radio building and at its epicenter an open, living and unifying space is formed: the Forum.

It is a vibrant place that never sleeps, that interweaves all elements of the building and the environment, promotes cooperation between LRT staff and visitors. This is the heart of the entire LRT complex, where the latest information is born and disseminated.

Company 20 – DEVICE: VINGIS

To give the National Radio and Television Headquarters a meaningful and recognizable image, the “architecture of the earth” was chosen, while trying to use combinations of wooden building elements in keeping with Lithuanian traditions.

The LRT headquarters becomes a continuation of the Vingis Park, so the expression of the form is the idea of a green path that connects the park with the urbanized territory, passing to the tree structure, thus completing the composition.

The spatial volume of wooden structures on S. Konarskio Street serves as an element that forms the perimeter and interior space, without violating the requirement to preserve green (pgr. Birches) and hide the entrance of heavy transport.

Obviously, special attention was paid to the fifth façade of the building.

The monotonous division of the wooden constructions of the building’s facade is enlivened with the introduction of the second internal facade, which mimics the curve of the building. Transparent glass of special technology is used, with the help of which it is possible to seamlessly connect the connections between the glass and the blind areas.
