The 30-year-old from Vilnius will start the season at the ATP 250 series tournament “Murray River Open” in Melbourne, which will be attended by world-class stars such as Stan Wawrinka, Grigor Dimitrov, Felix Auger-Aliassime, Nick Kyrgios and others.

After the lottery ceremony, R. Berankis’ first competitor became clear: he became Indian tennis player Sumitas Nagalas, who is ranked 138th in the ATP rankings.

This will be the first meeting of tennis players on the ATP circuit.

S. Nagal, 23, was the highest in the ATP rankings to position 122 and won the majority of his career victories on the ATP Challenger Tour.

If R. Berankis takes the victory, in the second round his expected cardholder is Jason Kubler (ATP-263) or the Italian Lorenzo Sonego (ATP-34). Although the latter is the ninth racket in the competition, the player’s strength is playing on the ground.

A potential contender for the eighth final is the fifth racket from Norwegian Casper Ruud (ATP-27), who is once again known as a ground cover expert.

Interestingly, there will be up to six tournaments (two ATP 250, ATP Cup, and three WTA) in Melbourne over the next week, with the Australian Open starting on February 8.

The prize fund for the Murray River Open tournament is 311,000. euros.
