Continue the story of the Gonzaga Bulldogs, represented by Martynas Arlauskas. Crossing the midline, Lithuanian teammate Jalens Suggs shot a long triple, the ball hit the ball with the sirens and Gonzaga University reached the NCAA final.
Bulldogs in semi-finals 93:90 (45:33, 36:37, 12: 9) brought down the California Bruins basketball players.
Suggs, who became the hero of the game, got a chance to lead the Bulldogs at the end of regular time, but they both got it wrong.
Bruins basketball player Johnny Juzang evened the score at the end of overtime (90:90), leaving opponents with 3.3 seconds.
After a short fight with the defender, Suggsas finally got the ball home.
The 19-year-old scored 16 points in 40 minutes (4/7 doubles, 2/5 trit., 2/2 penalty), made 6 assists, bounced 5 and took 2 balls.
Arlauskas did not get off the bench by decision of the coach.
The Bulldogs, who won all 31 games before the final, became the first team since 1979 to reach the title game without stumbling. That’s when Larry Bird and Indiana State University recorded the result.
In 1976, the Indiana Hoosiers won the NCAA without a hitch.
The five starters on the Gonzaga University team scored as many as 89 of 93 points.
