When we visited the village of Kartupėnai, Jurbarkas district, there was one of those days in May, when almost all of Lithuania was surprised by the unexpected snowfall.
The owner, Antanas Grumuldis, in a captain’s hat, told us that nature had made a good joke today, and when she went to the farm’s banquet hall, she still joked that she was special, because who is getting married here, never stands out.
20 hectares, both here are family farms of Grumuldžiai. There is a village and a rural tourism farm “Bisena”, a travel boat and a food truck called “Kipšiukas”.
After joining the ballroom, where weddings and other celebrations are generally held, Antanas said she bought this house in 2011 because she wanted to have a rural tourism business and spend her days on the boat retreat, which, by the way, she does. today.
When the family bought the farm, it was very old and in ruins, so everything had to be repaired, and because it is in the territory of the Regional Park, other rules apply, the owner explained, so everything had to be built in the same places.
Antanas’ son Julius calculated that although activities started here in 2014 and some of the support was received from the Structural Funds, the reconstruction required a lot of investment here.
“There is nothing to think about the return on investment in this business. He just has his job, “he said.
It is true that this season, according to Julius, the villas should have been very good, but in quarantine and with restrictions imposed.
In fact, since Easter was very early this year, and the Christmas marathon starts from them and lasts until November 1, it was a month of April, May full, but it turned out as it did.
We move all the holidays or we cancel them, and we will start the season at the end of June, from Joniniai, ”he said.
In a typical summer, as they say, almost every weekend is busy, most people celebrate weddings. When asked about lost losses, Julius said he expected that by 2022. The business will recover.
“It just caught our eye then. This year will be difficult, others will also be difficult,” he said.
Rural tourism, banquets and boat trips are not the only family businesses. In addition to all of this, they also have a food truck, which will feature its second season this summer.

“As the holidays have dwindled and we are moving home, out into the wild, we are eager to take advantage of the outgoing vacation,” Julius said.
It is true, because it is a family business, everyone is scattered and who is responsible for what.
“I am around the farm and the kitchen, Dad Antanas is the captain of the ship, Brother Simas is in charge of the ship business and Sister Ieva and my mother Raimonda are in charge of Kipšiukas,” Julius quickly explained.
According to him, the family also hires more helpers. Here, around 7 people still work here during the low season, and more during the season.
“It’s hard to find new employees here,” added Antanas, joking that sometimes they argue in the family, others are late.
Talking about the ship and sailing on it, Antanas was happy. As stated, I always dreamed of retirement to fly and float passengers.
“We sailed them between castles: Raudonė Castle, Panemunė Castle, Gelgaudiškis Mansion. We can also navigate to Jurbarkas, we have been standing in Dreverna, Kaunas, “he said.
When asked what is missing in the Jurbarkas district, the owner is open: there is a lack of passing tourists and where to drink coffee and the people themselves. He was also supported by his son Julius.
“We are trying to revive our beautiful path to Paradise and recover everything. There is a lack of people, “he said.
