Deividas Jurevičius, general practitioner at the Kaunas City Polyclinic, says that even now there are patients who have received and started taking antibiotics illegally.

“In the past, yes, I received a lot of patients who drank all kinds of drugs and supplements bought in Russian stores. In particular, antibiotics were received in some way.

Now maybe less often, but there are still patients who say “I’ve already been treated with some antibiotics without a doctor’s appointment.” I drink tetracycline mostly, although I would never prescribe it, maybe I would even start with other medications, “says the doctor.

Seduced by the low price

Comparing the prices of a Facebook page that sells Russian food supplements, which has both a physical outlet on the market, such as pharmacies, it is obvious that in pharmacies, a drug or food supplement with a similar purpose is sometimes several times more expensive.

For example, 30 ml of vitamin D3 drops in a legally operating pharmacy can cost between 10 and 20 euros, while on the market the same number of drops is available for only 5.50 euros.

The cost of nail fungus in pharmacies also starts from 10 euros, and sometimes the prices can reach 25-30 euros. The Russian equivalent of such a measure costs € 4.70.

Providers also offer a drug to restore prostate function. 60 tablets of this preparation are available on the market for € 8.80. And in pharmacies, a pack of 60 capsules of the most popular drug of this type will slim your wallet from 20 to 25 euros.

Dr. D. Jurevičius believes that precisely because of the much lower price, patients are likely to choose to buy drugs from illegally employed vendors.

Trading without a license is prohibited.

Lithuanian police warn that trade in medicines without a license is prohibited.

“The drug trade is an authorized activity and can only be carried out by authorized entities, so without a license, a kiosk, a market is not a place where the trade is legal. The illegal drug trade is prohibited,” says the department. of cop.

Aistė Tautvydienė, spokesperson for the State Drug Control Service (hereinafter CBI), says the Office investigates all reports received of illegal trade together with police officers.

“Such activities are illegal, and if you notice any manifestation of such activities, please contact IWT. The Office investigates all reports of illicit drug trafficking brought to it and also cooperates with police officers when they detect such violations.

In order to combat the illegal drug trade more effectively, including on the Internet, the Office initiated the relevant amendments to the Pharmacy Law, ”says A. Tautvydienė.

Antibiotics

Buy and risk health

According to IWT, purchasing drugs outside of pharmacies cannot guarantee that the drug, even if manufactured by a legitimate manufacturer, will be transported, stored and repackaged correctly after its original expiration date.

“A drug can also be manufactured by a legitimate drug manufacturer, but when it is caught in an illegal distribution chain, it becomes a counterfeit. Additionally, drugs must be transported and stored properly so that they are of good quality and safe to use. use.

The shelf life of a product purchased on the market or online may have expired, the product may be repackaged in another packaging, which may have a new shelf life. All this will not be controlled by man himself. Therefore, by buying and using these “drugs”, you not only put your health at risk, but also your life, “warns A. Tautvydienė about the possible threat.

He also has the support of the family doctor D. Jurevičius. According to him, patients can experience various consequences when taking such drugs or supplements, which even doctors are not aware of. By taking illegally distributed and over-the-counter drugs, we can even lose hearing.

“The consequences are unknown, because it is an illegal drug that has not been registered. Such preparations should not be used. There can be many side effects if we take antibiotics without a doctor’s appointment, resistant bacteria can start to reproduce, if they are not used properly, if they are given drugs of unclear composition, they can become deaf and allergic reactions can occur. ”Says the doctor.
