The government will make a decision on all the proposals on Wednesday.
Professor Mindaugas Stankūnas, from the Department of Health Management at the Lithuanian University of Health Sciences, told a press conference on Tuesday that it was decided to offer masks to wear outdoors only if there are other people less than 2 meters away. This would not apply to people living together.
“After reviewing the most recent scientific literature, recommendations and assessing the situation, we believe that it would be possible to review the mask regulation. We are proposing to change the regulations on outdoor clothing, ”he said.
According to M. Stankūnas, it is recommended that people no longer wear scarves or face shields.
He stressed that people should use reliable means – medical masks or respirators, and cloth masks are not that effective.
“We believe that this could come into force in the very near future, although starting tomorrow. But it will have to be a government decision,” he said.
Proposes quarantine extension: the number of hospitalizations has stopped decreasing
Vaidotas Grigas, director of the Molėtai Hospital, announced on Tuesday that the expert council proposes to the Government to extend the quarantine.
As for the length of the quarantine, experts have left the Cabinet to decide, but are inclined to believe that the restrictions would extend for a much longer period, not a week.
“Yesterday we discussed the extension of the quarantine conditions in the expert council and the entire expert council unanimously agreed that the quarantine as such should be extended,” he emphasized.
“The number of cases that are being determined has reached such a level that it no longer falls,” he said.
The hospital director said the number of people admitted to hospitals had stopped decreasing.
When considering quarantine mitigation measures, according to V. Grigo, releases must be done very carefully, because until the majority of society is not vaccinated, the third wave may arrive.
“This is certainly not the third wave that has been transmitted, but it is worrying,” said a member of the expert council.
He couldn’t say what the extended quarantine would look like in the near future.
“Every week various sectors are discussed, this week there will be communication with the cultural sector”, asked V. Grigas about the possible facilities of the quarantine regime.
Last week, Prime Minister Ingrida Šimonytė did not doubt that the quarantine regime, which is now valid until March 1, will be extended.
The numbers are not encouraging
A week ago, Prime Minister Ingrida Šimonytė hoped that this Wednesday the Government could accept more releases in quarantine and, depending on the number of new cases, we may have already reached the C2 scenario. But there was no such change in a week.
This much lighter quarantine regime could be considered if 100,000 new cases in 14 days. the population would reach 150-200.
According to data released by the Lithuanian Department of Statistics on Tuesday, this number is 242.8.
The quarantine regime will also be adjusted based on the percentage of positive tests, which will not exceed 10.
Scenarios C1 and C2 correspond to the current number of positive tests. The percentage of positive tests on the last day was 7.8.
