Some people who are invited to get vaccinated decline the vaccine if AstraZeneca is offered to them. It is true that there are several people from lower priority groups who call primary care centers and ask if there is a possibility of receiving any vaccines, including AstraZeneca.
Several European countries have temporarily suspended vaccination with the vaccine due to concerns about blood clots in several tens of millions of vaccinated people.
Lithuania was among those who stopped being vaccinated with this vaccine. However, vaccination with AstraZeneca has been resumed, which was suspended this Friday and Wednesday. Health Minister Arūnas Dulkys announced the decision to resume vaccination with AstraZeneca on Thursday night, after receiving the conclusions of the European Medicines Agency (EMA) that said vaccine is safe and effective against the coronavirus.
Two thirds of the doses were vaccinated.
Despite the rationale, AstraZeneca remains the vaccine with the highest number of unvaccinated residues.
Vaccine for coronavirus
Head of the Press Service of the Ministry of Health (SAM) Specialist Julijanas Gališanskis told the Delfi portal that 120 thousand people would be delivered to Lithuania. Of the 500 doses of the AstraZeneca vaccine, 77,000 were injected. 900 doses.
For comparison: of the 299 thousand delivered. 700 doses of the Pfizer / Biontech Cominarity vaccine were administered in 288,000 doses. 500 vaccines and 39 thousand. 23,000 doses of Moderna vaccine were injected into 23,000 patients. 500 vaccines.
J. Gališanskis noted that although people are less likely to be vaccinated with the AstraZeneca vaccines, only two-thirds of the doses have already been vaccinated.
“Approximately 5 thousand. AstraZeneca dose. If the vaccination had not stopped in two days, tens of thousands more would have been vaccinated”, calculated the SAM specialist.
J. Gališanskis has not been able to say how people react to the AstraZeneca vaccine after the vaccine was renewed. The ministry will only receive today’s vaccination data the next day.
Go back and ask what vaccine is here
Laima Jurytė-Zakarauskienė, director of the Telšiai District Primary Health Care Center (PSPC), also noted that people are more skeptical about the AstraZeneca vaccine.
It is true that so far vaccination with such a vaccine has not been resumed in Telšiai. It is planned to do so from Tuesday. On Friday, residents of the Telšiai district were vaccinated with Cominarity and Moderna vaccine residues, which were very small.
L. Jurytė-Zakarauskienė noted that older people (now people aged 65 and over are vaccinated in Telšiai district) often express a desire to be vaccinated with another vaccine than AstraZeneca.
“When they call and ask for shots, some say they don’t want these ‘terrible’ shots,” the director said.
It is true that not all older people understand which vaccine has been vaccinated. There have been several cases where vaccinates have returned to the clinic with a brochure that says Cominarity and have asked what manufacturer the vaccine was from.
L. Jurytė-Zakarauskienė said that nobody forces people to be vaccinated with a vaccine, they do not want and do not put at the end for that, but they allow to choose another desired vaccine.
It is true that not everyone is against AstraZeneca vaccines.
“I have recently received several calls from a lower priority group that wants any vaccine to be vaccinated as soon as possible,” he said.
L. Jurytė-Zakarauskienė believes that people’s trust in AstraZeneca will be restored after it has been clearly stated that it is safe. The country’s leaders’ decision to vaccinate him on Monday will also help improve the reputation of the vaccine.
“It is important that the people see that the country’s leaders will vaccinate them, that they will not vaccinate them. After all, a lot of people keep saying, “If the vaccine is so safe, why don’t you vaccinate yourself?” So I think that the decision of the country’s leaders to vaccinate with AstraZeneca is really the correct one, “said the interlocutor.
AstraZeneca has not yet resumed vaccination on the stock exchanges
According to Kęstutis Knizikevičius, head of the Biržai District Social Support Department, vaccination with AstraZeneca has not yet been resumed in his municipality. According to the interviewee, after suspending the vaccination on Tuesday, it was still necessary to plan a vaccination plan for the next week. Because vaccination was indefinitely suspended, the municipality did not plan to vaccinate AstraZeneca this week.

“We will start vaccinating AstraZeneca next week. We only use Pfizer this week after suspension,” said K. Knizikevičius.
In Biržai district, the AstraZeneca vaccine has already become undesirable after reports in the media that several European Union countries discontinued vaccination with this vaccine.
“It just came to our notice then. If it were the case that we are calling people per day and giving up about 5 people who are scheduled to be vaccinated, then when it became known that the states started to stop, 70 people surrendered to the week. About 20 or more per day. The news was really negative and it was difficult to gather those who wanted to get vaccinated, “said a representative from the Biržai district.
Most of those who refused dropped the AstraZeneca vaccine last week, but agreed to wait for another, although there was no such option at the time.
“I think next week will show if we can bring together people who want to get vaccinated with this vaccine. Now people will no longer have to be informed when they receive the vaccine, they will be vaccinated, as this will be possible for those who request the vaccine. We have recently finished establishing the vaccination schedules for next week, so the sisters who call will be able to ask what vaccine they want to be vaccinated with, ”said K. Knizikevičius.
There was also an increase in resignations at Švenčionys after the suspension
And in the Švenčionys district, residents do not want to get vaccinated with AstraZeneca. Stopping the process has seriously affected people’s confidence, which is why there are many people who refuse to accept the vaccine.
Vaccine for coronavirus
According to Jovita Rudėnienė, director of the Švenčionys district municipal administration, 28 people were scheduled to be vaccinated with this vaccine on Wednesday alone. However, after the Health Ministry changed plans on Tuesday, all planned vaccinations had to be canceled.
According to J. Rudėnienė, this decision raised questions about vaccinations even for those Švenčionys who had previously decided to get vaccinated. There are also some who, after a temporary suspension, strictly rejected the AstraZeneca vaccine and said they would wait for others.
“We have called again and we are still picking up people who want to get vaccinated. Some agree, others hesitate and wait for another vaccine. But somehow he manages to gather people, some do not see the difference. We are very active in calling to people over 65 and ask them if they would like or agree. If they categorically refuse, wait for another vaccination, “said a representative of the Švenčionys district municipality, adding that, in fact, there are people who categorically refuse to get vaccinated with AstraZeneca.
As noted by J. Rudėnienė, negative communication about this vaccine had a great impact on the residents of Švenčionys. However, there is also positive news: some residents boldly vaccinate with AstraZeneca and share their positive experiences on social media.
According to the director of the municipality, if it is not possible to collect those who want to be vaccinated with the AstraZeneca vaccine from the priority groups, an effort will be made to collect them from other places: various public officials.
“I think we will gather whoever wants, but the work will have to be really huge, we are doing it now. I think we will make it, “said J. Rudėnienė.
