Lithuania claims to have a second referee in the international basketball arena. According to the website BasketNews.lt, the Lithuanian Basketball Referees Association (LKTA) submitted to the LKF Executive Committee the candidacy of the promising Milita Stalaučinskaitė to obtain the FIBA referee license for 2021-2023.

Indrė Balnionytė was the first to receive such recognition in the history of Lithuanian basketball, who joined the FIBA referee family last year. Nine Lithuanian male judges also have an international license.

Members of the Executive Committee will meet for a remote meeting on Tuesday, and approval of the request from Stalaučinskaitė, who is whistling for season four, is just a formality.

After receiving it, the young judges will have a physical fitness test in January. It is sufficient for women to run for 8 minutes, but if the ambition is to whistle in the future in international men’s competitions, it is mandatory to exceed the men’s norm of 10 minutes.

After the health check, a 25-question basketball theory test is done remotely.

In response to these challenges, FIBA issues a license that opens up opportunities to work in international competitions. The first year of the license is considered a probationary period during which the judges receive appointments for the summer junior championships.

Last season, Balnionytė made her international club basketball debut by whistling at the Women’s European Cup match in Minsk. Šiaulietė is the only judge currently working on the NKL championship. Renata Radišauskaitė used to work at this tournament.

The latter, together with Stalaučinskaitė, Indre Vilkuotyte and Erika Jareckaitė, whistle in the RKL championship.

In mid-November, the trio of Balnionytė, Stalaučinskaitė and Vilkuotytė in Huawei’s Women’s League match became historic in the annals of Lithuanian basketball. Until then, the women’s basketball team had never been judged by a women’s team.
