The Norwegian national team was sure to triumph in the men’s 4 x 7.5 km relay, but the extremely tense fight was broken up for second place. The Russian team could not bear the tension.
In the final meters, Russia’s Alexander Bolshunov and Finnish national team representative Joni Maki, who made a great effort and won silver at the decisive moment, competed for silver.
Just before the finish line, the outclassed Russian did not accept that. A. Bolshunov initially struck the opponent, and immediately after the end, he directed all his strength directly at J. Maki and made him fall to the ground.
Such a fit of anger did not pass the eyes of the competition judges. A. Bolshunov was disqualified and cost the Russian national team bronze: the entire team’s result was annulled.
Bolshunov, 24, is the leader of the Russian ski team. During his career, he has already won 4 Olympic medals (3 silver and 1 bronze) and 4 silver medals in world championships.
