E. Jakilaitis shared a public record of his decision on the social network. The journalist claimed that the nature of the job was changing and cited the reasons for that choice.

“About change.

I have been working as a journalist for 24 years. All those years I work as a journalist only in the field of news and current affairs on television. I produced endless reports, interviews, discussions, debates. I learned from the best and strived to become one. I worked in various positions: reporter, news anchor, critic, foreign television consultant, managed and created news and television services. I worked alone and led large teams, but I always worked as a journalist no matter what other position I held. Only current television journalism has been my vocation and the most important way of life of all these years.

I love my job madly, but I love a few more things. We have been with my wife Rasa for more than twenty years. She sacrificed much of her time, dreams, and ambitions for my success. She, who often worked a few hours a day and seven days a week, always spent more time than I did with the children, the home and, of course, me. She always supported and encouraged me, she was always there when I started what I really did not believe, when I faced those who seemed very powerful, when I could not sleep for days on various journalistic topics; I was there when I was successful and when I was almost banging my head against the wall, I couldn’t change any situation at work. Always.

We both graduated in journalism from the Vilnius University Institute of Journalism, and we met. After a decade of work in television news, mainly economic / business news, Rasa took another direction: communication. She worked as a freelance public relations specialist, then became an advisor and spokesperson for Finance Minister Ingrida Šimonytė, then an advisor to Foreign Minister Linas Linkevičius and head of communication for the Lithuanian Presidency of the European Union.

During the last decade, it has not always been easy for me to balance the freedom of a journalist with a certain conflict of interest by occupying the position of political trust for my closest person. I also don’t think it was a gift for her to be the wife of such a character. But that was already the case.

And now, another situation, Rasa joins the Prime Minister’s team, becomes his advisor and spokesperson. For me, the political, the economic, etc. Topical for the host, this situation becomes even more complicated.

I believe that in the current situation, one of us needs to change our plans, so I announce that I will soon leave my activities as a political presenter, that is, no later than the new year, for at least a four-year political cycle.

It will take some time to complete or civilly terminate some obligations.

I will work in television, I will lead programs that are not related to day-to-day political issues or direct government activities, and I am an editor and producer of television programs, documentaries, series and more. I should do this in the future, there are ideas and a great team.

But things will be different: there will be no relevant interviews, forums or discussions.

I never thought I’d make that decision, but I’m happy to decide that. “

I have been a journalist for 24 years on the changes. All those years I work as a journalist only in the field of news and current affairs …
