Inspectors from the Vilnius Department of the SFVS, who carry out inspections of catering establishments (cafes, restaurants, canteens of preschool educational institutions, etc.), increasingly record cases in which entities use raw materials for the production of meals, whose expiration dates have expired or have expired.
During this month, SFVS inspectors who supervised compliance with food safety, sanitation and hygiene requirements banned catering companies from using 113 kg of non-food raw materials for consumption and consumption due to their expiration dates or lack of traceability. . Due to the extension of the quarantine period in Lithuania, some food business operators were forced to temporarily suspend their activities and, as it turned out during the inspections, unfortunately some cafes did not use food raw materials on time, which had to be destroyed.
In Vilnius, due to detected violations, the activities of three cafeterias were temporarily suspended by decision of the SFVS Vilnius Department. This decision was made in the case of serious violations of the food handling requirements in cafes, when the self-control system for food, the adequate hygiene of the cooking facilities, violations of expiration dates and traceability of raw materials and inevitable cross contamination of food.
Catering companies will be able to resume their activities only after removing all identified deficiencies and after a new inspection by the inspectors.
The SFVS recalls that the traceability of raw materials should not be less important for employees of restaurants, cafes, dining rooms, restaurants and other catering companies. and. It should be clear when and from whom the raw materials were purchased, what is the country or place of origin of the raw materials, the expiration dates.
Experts point out that to produce safe, high-quality meals, reliable suppliers of food raw materials must be selected, providing all the necessary guarantees for product safety and quality.
