On Wednesday there was a record increase in coronavirus infection in Poland, with 10,040 new COVID-19 cases confirmed in the country.
Last Saturday “red zones” were identified in almost half of the country’s territory, mainly in the main cities and their surroundings.
“I would recommend that the whole of Poland become a ‘red zone’ as of Saturday,” Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki told private television Polsat in preparation for a meeting of the coronavir crisis response working group, during which the measure would be formally decided.
Morawieckis advised “everyone who can work remotely” as early as last week.
In the ‘Red Zones’, all secondary schools were closed and switched to distance education.
Sports clubs and swimming pools were also closed.
Restaurants must close at 9 pm local time; Wedding parties are prohibited and there are stricter restrictions on the number of people who can enter shops, public transport and services.
Most Polish stores open from 10 am to noon. local time is reserved for people over 60 years old.
A mandatory requirement to wear masks in public places has also been introduced across the country.
The Morawieckis government has also previously announced that the Warsaw National Stadium will be converted into an open-air hospital, as well as other temporary treatment facilities in the event of severe strain on the healthcare system after the coronavirus epidemic.
