The drone images show a 37-meter-long figure from a bird’s eye view that, according to Johny Isla, a geologist with the Ministry of Culture of Peru, is created on a hillside by forming furrows and stacking stones. Peruvian archaeologists restored their former glory after two thousand years of erosion, which hid the lines that formed these drawings from the eyes of the people.
The geoglyphs (huge drawings) created by the Nazca and Paracasus cultures recall Peru’s rich history in the pre-Columbian period and are considered archaeological mysteries because no one knows exactly why they originated and why they are so large.
The Nazca drawings, inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List in 1994, have hit squatters looking for a place to stay and drivers exiting the nearby highway.
