Petras Bingelis died at the age of 77. The news about the loss of the Lrt.lt portal was confirmed by the director of the Kaunas State Philharmonic, Justinas Krėpšta.

P. Bingelis, who had coronavirus, was initially treated at LSMU Kaunas Hospital, and a few days ago he was transferred to a special resuscitation department of Kaunas clinics for COVID-19 patients, he wrote lrytas.lt. His condition was reported to be serious.

Petras Bingelis graduated from the Lithuanian State Conservatory (now Lithuanian Academy of Music and Theater) with a BA in music in 1975-1976. He did an internship at the Felix Mendelssohn-Bartholdy School of Music in Leipzig, in the orchestral conducting classes of Professors Rolf Reuter and Kurt Masura.

P. Bingelis has conducted the Kaunas State Choir since the first rehearsal in 1969. October 23, 1988-1989 he was the titular conductor of the Kaunas State Musical Theater, he conducted “Traviata” by G. Verdi and “Don Juan” by WAMozart. Since 1992 taught at the Lithuanian Academy of Music and Theater, 1996 he was given the title of professor.

The conductor prepared concert programs annually together with the Lithuanian Chamber Orchestra and the National, Lithuanian State and Kaunas City Symphony Orchestras.

Since 1970 P. Bingel has been the principal director of the song festivals included in the world heritage of values ​​under the auspices of UNESCO; 1990 National Song Festival, 1994 and 1998 Artistic director and titular director of the Lithuanian World Song Festival.

P. Bingelis is also the founder and artistic director of the Pažaislis Music Festival.

The creative activity of Master P. Bingelis has been awarded numerous honorary awards:

1993 – National Prize for Culture and Art
1995 – Order of the Grand Duke of Lithuania Gediminas IV degree
2003 – Grand Cross of the Commander of the Order of Merit of Lithuania
2004 – voted Kaunas Most Memorable Artist
2005 – First Degree Santaka Badge of Honor for Merits to the City of Kaunas
2013 – Badge of Honor of the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Lithuania “Bring the light and create”.
