According to the head of the country, those who “deserve Lithuania’s daily professional activities, as well as exceptional life-changing deeds” are honored with orders and medals.

He also said that the coronavirus pandemic, which began a year ago, still requires addressing issues of life and death.

“Today, the most beautiful examples of sacrifice, charity and solidarity are revealed in dramatic circumstances. For this reason, I would like to mention separately our great doctors, nurses, hospital support personnel, volunteers who do not avoid danger and face the daily confrontation with a dangerous virus, ”said the President.

“Today, sadly, some of the fighters are no longer with us, but we will never forget the courage and determination they have shown. May the Cross of Salvation of the Dying express at least a small part of that respect, which we all feel for those who sacrifice their personal safety to rescue the people of Lithuania, “he added.

According to G. Nausėda, the winners “embody the aspiration for a stronger, better and fairer Lithuania”.

On the occasion of February 16, the Day of Restoration of the State of Lithuania, Antanas Vailionis (Vailenis), the father, a supporter of the Šarūnas national team of the Dainava district, who died in the resistance struggle, received the Grand Cross . of the Order of the Vytis Cross after his death.

By decree of the Head of State, the Commander’s Cross of the Order of Grand Duke Gediminas was dedicated to the urologist, nephrologist, surgeon, promoter of transplantation and organ donation Bali Dainis.

The director Algimantas Puipa and the academic, creator of computing machines in Lithuania, pioneer of the development of the Internet and humanoid robotics in Lithuania, Adolfas Laimutis Telksnys were honored with the Commander’s Cross of the Order of Merit of Lithuania.

Edvardas Šileris, Director of the Cyber ​​Crimes Center at the European Union Agency for Law Enforcement Cooperation (Europol), received the Vytis Cross Officer Cross.

The Crosses of the Officer of the Order of the Grand Duke of Lithuania Gediminas were delivered to the neurosurgeon Vytenis Pranas Deltuva of the Kaunas Clinics of the Lithuanian Health Sciences Hospital (LSMU) and Ričardas Kubilis, head of the Clinic for Facial Treatment and Maxillofacial Surgery from the Kaunas Clinics of the Lithuanian Clinic.

This award was also presented to Mindaugas Šerpytis, Head of the III Department of Resuscitation and Intensive Care at the Center for Anesthesiology, Intensive Care and Pain Treatment of the University Hospital of Vilnius Santara Clinics, Tomas Tamošutis, Head of the Department of Neurosurgery Intensive Care, LSMU Neurosurgery Clinic.

Vaidutis Kučinskas, chairman of the Department of Biology, Medicine and Geosciences, pioneer of human and medical genetics in Lithuania and Pranas Vaškelis, chairman of the Food Safety and Quality Commission of the Lithuanian Academy of Sciences, also received the Cross of Officer of the Order. of the Grand Duke of Lithuania Gediminas.

More than 30 healthcare workers (doctors, nurses, nursing assistants, cleaners), most healthcare workers receive the death toll for saving lives and sacrificing lives in the extremely difficult circumstances of COVID-19, despite of the threat to their lives.

This award for rescued drowned persons is also given to Vaidas Buinauskas and Laurynas Subačius.
