The Klaipeda City Municipal Committee meeting discussed the pandemic situation in the port city.

It is gratifying that the number of new cases per 100,000 inhabitants is decreasing.

Vaccination rates were also discussed.

According to this, Klaipeda is currently in the “tail” of other municipalities, 55 out of 60, because it has long followed the list of priority groups and did not violate the instructions of the Ministry of Health.

Recently, more and more young people have started to vaccinate and the rate has started to pick up.

It is very difficult for children

The pandemic has hit families with multiple students especially painfully.

At the committee meeting, A.Velykienė directly asked the deputy mayor of Klaipėda city if students in grades 5-11, who had been studying remotely since October, would return to schools.

The city council member’s family has two growing school-age children, both of whom have been studying at home since October.

“It is very difficult for children. Can we parents expect children to start school again from September? There must be some hope. You cannot imagine how difficult it is now … For example, in mathematics, there are four lessons , two of them also zoom, two independently.

I have to quit my jobs and sit down to teach the child even though the teachers work full time and get paid. The situation is very sad and then we will all wish the children the best. If you were locked in a room since October, I would see what your psychological condition would be, ”said A.Velykienė.

He promises to return

Arūnas Cesiulis, deputy mayor of the city of Klaipėda and vice president of the Commission for Health and Social Affairs, assured that from September the children must unequivocally return to school.

He also noted that the mathematical achievements of Klaipeda residents are not brilliant and the city needs to think.

“After all, we cannot push everyone into hiding, without contact there will be no result. There is no alternative but the belief that children will go back to school from September,” said A. Cesiulis.

Asta Dirgėlienė, deputy director of the Klaipėda municipal administration, assured that the children will return in autumn.

And if the situation is not favorable, the learning will be at least hybrid, mixed, “chess” or otherwise, and the children will not learn completely at a distance.

Responding to the comments of A.Velykienė, A.Cesiulis assured that distance education for students in grades 5-11 until the end of the school year was chosen not only for him and “not out of laziness”.

The decision for these students to continue distance learning was made in Klaipeda with high morbidity rates from coronavirus.

Classes in classes are for beginners only. They have been tested by the cumulative method since May 17.

According to the deputy mayor of Klaipeda, the tests performed very well, although there was all the feedback and there was talk about the rights of the child being violated.

“In one school, the coronavirus was detected in up to six classes using that cumulative method, and the cases were quickly cleared up to prevent it from spreading. But it shows that if other classes had started attending schools, we would have had a COVID blast. ”Said A. Cesiulis.

However, the level of vaccination that the municipality must achieve so that children can return to school is guaranteed, the members of the Klaip Municipality Health and Social Affairs Committee statedda stated that they were unaware.

“We don’t know, it has never been talked about, but we will listen to the Ministry,” promised Asta Dirgėlienė, deputy director of the Klaipėda city administration.
