“Feces are allowed in the Neris river in the center of Vilnius. This footage, and the tanker trucks that were filmed at the time, reached a company that appears to be in the business of fecal cleaning. Currently, the Neris River is full of salmon that spawn here. The damage to nature is cosmically significant, ”Tom said, concerned.
Images of the contaminated Neris were also shared on the Facebook account of the “Salmon Diary” association.
“It just came to our attention then. Currently, feces flow into the Neris River, Vilnius”, is written in a Facebook note.
At that time, Renata Smalskė, representative of Vilniaus Vandenai, confirmed that the pollutants flowed into the river, but the pollution stopped as soon as she found out. The report on the distributed contamination incident indicates that once the notification was received, the Vilniaus Vanden sent company brigade was quickly dispatched to the site to find out the source of the contamination. According to preliminary data, the source of contamination is not fully treated wastewater.
At one of the pumping stations of the Vilniaus Vandenys company located near the contamination site, cleaning work on the sewage tanks was carried out today. After stopping the reception of sewage, the tank was washed. During this work, part of the incompletely treated wastewater from the pumping station may have entered the river.
Upon arriving at the site, the contamination quickly stopped. Pollution no longer occurs at this time. The causes of the incident are being clarified and investigated.
