Before that, the faculty was headed by Professor Vytautas Tetenskas, 69. He says he received a proposal from Chancellor Zbignev Ibelgaupt to resign late last fall, with less than a year remaining until the end of his term.

The rector says that the former dean resigned by mutual consent, and L. Jonavičienė was selected from among several candidates after evaluating her managerial skills.

The reason was not understood

V. Tetenskas affirms that in November of last year he received a proposal from the rector to resign earlier. His mandate was due to end at the end of August this year.

Rector Z. Ibelgauptas got somewhere in November. We discussed all the other matters, we inspected the repairs and then we sat down with me in the office, and he offered to resign as dean as of February 1, “V. Tetenskas told BNS.

“It just came to our knowledge then. He spoke of the need to renew, that we need new winds, new faces, that there is no duplication of programs, that there is more exchange for the better,” he added.

He said he thought a bit, consulted with his wife, and decided to accept the rector’s offer if they paid him compensation.

“I thought maybe a week or a half – we met at home and then the decision was mine not to have a conflict, to have great passions, we consulted with my wife and said that if they paid me compensation, then okay, I would retire “, dean.

V. Tetensk says he was surprised to learn who his successor will be. He said the rector had announced the candidate shortly after the new year.

“I was sure it would be something between us. We have teachers, there are doctors. Now a person comes from a country who has not worked in an institution of higher education, does not have a scientific degree or a degree and is going to direct the faculty ”, considered the former dean.

V. Tetenskas stated that he would not have sought another at the end of his term, so he does not understand why there was a need to hurry.

“There was half a year left for the end of the semester, if you had to hurry so much here and do it in the middle of the course. I do not know. We would have celebrated the anniversary of the faculty, we would have organized a beautiful concert, perhaps a conference; everything would depend on the situation of the pandemic, my mandate would have changed then and someone would have taken the post of dean very well ”, considered V. Tetenskas.

After receiving the offer, he did not seek a position at the Conservatory.

The current interim dean L. Jonavičienė said that she had received a proposal to lead the faculty from Rector Z. Ibelgaupt, which surprised her, but in the end she decided to accept this challenge.

“It was a great shock, a surprise and a challenge for me, especially since I also graduated from this institution,” said the new dean of the LMTA Klaipėda faculty.

He said that the rector’s proposal for the post of dean last year was received last year, and that at that time he had to decide whether to pursue another term at the S. Šimkus Conservatory or not.

He stated that he did not participate in the competition because he already had a proposal to lead the faculty of LMTA Klaipėda.

“I had to decide if I would run for another term or if I would still accept the challenge and go here. I did not participate (in the contest – BNS) and I informed the rector about it ”, said the musician.

The Ministry of Education, Science and Sports informed BNS that the competition for the position of Director of the Conservatory was announced on August 31 last year and the selection documents were to be submitted no later than November 12.

The only Renata Krikščiūnaitė-Barcevičienė participated in the competition, a former subordinate of L. Jonavičienė, who was recognized as his winner because she met the qualification requirements and scored 34.33 out of 50 possible points.

R. Krikščiūnaitė-Barcevičienė started working at the beginning of February, until then she was the head of one of the departments.

The successor was named only by the new ones.

The rector of the LMTA, Z. Ibelgauptas, said that the resignation of V. Tetenskas had been decided by mutual agreement, the conversation about it “got out of hand” during the meeting of the two in Klaipėda.

“Our longtime dean, who is loved by the community, is a respectable age; the time is coming when we should pay more attention to academic pursuits, perhaps creative pursuits … That was his determination.” Zbel Ibelgauptas said. .

LMTA rector Z. Ibelgauptas says he began looking for candidates for the faculty deans after an interview with V. Tetenskas in the fall.

“When we talked to the dean that it was time, he decided that it was time to dedicate himself to creative and pedagogical activities, so I began to think about where to find a person,” said the rector.

“We spoke with the dean in the fall, in November or October, I can’t say exactly now … And we spoke with Loreta after that,” he said.

She stated that L. Jonavičienė was not the only candidate, but after one candidate was rejected, she was chosen for her strong management skills.

“It just came to our attention then. One refused, of the other two Loreta was stronger as a manager,” said Z. Ibelgauptas.

“I have known her for 20 years, we are all in the common field of culture and there is no need to offer here. I just remembered who could have thought and who was doing exceptionally well, ”said the rector.

According to him, the candidacy of L. Jonavičienė was considered by the Office of the Rector, and before that, the Rector also consulted with the cultural institutions of Klaip ,da, their directors, including Laima Vilimiene, director of the Klaipėda State Musical Theater.

Z. Ibelgauptas states that it is customary for the LMTA to appoint not only heads of faculties, but also heads of departments for a given probationary period, and then collect feedback and consider nominations.

“We have such an order that we never appoint a person to a position of responsibility without consulting with the community, without testing in the community, without testing in cathedrals,” said Z. Ibelgauptas.

“This is the order in which we are appointed: a person is temporarily appointed, after which feedback is collected from the community, from departments, from all teachers, from administration. Only then is he presented to the Senate, what approve or not, “he added.

He assured that it was nothing unusual that L. Jonavičienė did not have a scientific degree; such practices had already taken place before.

“Our statute states that you must have managerial experience. This is practically the case here: our Faculty of Theater is headed by Elona Bajorinienė, who came to us without any scientific degree. The same was spent for a year, then feedback was collected” said the head of the LMTA.

The rector of the LMTA, Z. Ibelgauptas, stated that he did not know that L. Jonavičienė is the older sister of President G. Nausėdienė’s wife, D. Nausėdienė.
