Today we will talk about the ideal perfume for medium airports. They are not niche, they are not very expensive, but they are not the most purchased either (they are much more popular and more twisted). It is not the smell of an airport: it is a completely mediocre formula that people who smell the perfume that is tried at the airport smell.
It is the perfume of Guerlain Homme Eau de Parfum, from the fashion house, as you may have guessed, Guerlain. For those pedantas who like to explain and show their lack of knowledge: “here there is no perfume, here there is bath water”. These are even perfumes for pedantas: Eau de Parfum is written on the bottle. What will they say now, botanists?
It is a simple perfume created not long ago: in 2009. Eleven years of perfume are mature, perhaps it has not yet proven the status of an eternal classic, it only shows that they are not a complete failure.

The perfume master who created them is Swiss Thierry Wasser, an educational (ironic) botanist, very productive (dozens of jobs, not only for Guerlain’s fashion house, but for others as well), but produces very few perfumes that They have become vintage marks: unless Salvador Dali Pour Homme (1987), Jaguar Original (1988), Chopard Pour Homme (2006), Hypnose Homme Lancome (2007). His works have a clear Swiss type: more order, less stagnation. The Swiss are better at building railways in the mountains and ski lifts in the Alps than at making works of art. However, Switzerland is one of my favorite countries in the world. If it weren’t for California, I’d consider buying a home in the Swiss Alps.

And that is why these perfumes obtained such a perfect average. Such a perfectionist average smell. It can smell like a bank and a banker, a reception from a big insurance company, it can smell like a business class room of a Swiss airline (trust me, I spent more time in those aisles than I wanted to: I used to fly through Zurich so soon as I had a choice).
The scent opens with ripe green lemon, rum and mint, basically the scent of a standard bar cocktail, you can practically hear the bubbling of the sparkling water bubbles and the crunch of the ice cubes. This is followed by a generic, generalized, but unsweetened and discreet floral scent. These are more wildflowers than exotic ones. It is the same modesty of the alpine meadows, more than any flourishing and intoxicating oriental garden.
The base consists of Indian patchouli with a marijuana tone (yes, I will not tire of repeating it; I do not recommend it and do not use it, but I will not prohibit smelling), soapy, simple, unsaturated, very schematic vetiver and cedar, but these perfumes they don’t need a long survival the smell of printing, it’s an airport purchase, first spray, try, then buy (because the airport is an area where money counts differently, because, as a classic said, where else could you sell a tuna sandwich for $ seventeen?), then you go on the plane yourself and then it’s no longer relevant if this smell will last long, because on one trip, especially on a long trip, and the time is different after all . Those who have read Einstein’s teachings know that time is relative, although in life this can be easily verified: an hour with a friend or friends spends much faster than an hour in a boring event or an hour with relatives with the you don’t want to be.
These perfumes are a bit dated, and I try to understand why: not because of the patchouli (which is not aggressive) or because of any other ingredient. No, they are perfectly generic, they are what we can call a gender classic: they contain a drop of what you have already heard, what your father or older colleague has used, what you have smelled at a party, there are vague experiences and memories a library, too eclectic, too mixed to evoke precise emotions or associations. It is a triumph of communion. There is no eroticism, no sex, no real dream, there is only a certain purity and order. And another good balance in the bank account.
Guerlain Homme is not refreshing, they are more welcoming and stifling than that airport or cabin. Despite the fact that they ventilate and leave fairly quickly, the ephemeral of the wind does not live in them. It is not a brilliant piece, it is not an epic discovery, but they will have a place in your collection.
