US President Donald Trump has announced the removal of Defense Secretary Mark Esper. This is his first official action since the electoral defeat, the US media reported.
As usual, the president about it reported on his Twitter account.
Trump said Esper would be replaced by Christopher Miller, a former soldier who had served in the so-called Green Berets unit and was now director of the National Counter-Terrorism Center, a division of the US intelligence community.

CNBC says the firing was not news to Esper, according to a report by NBC News. He allegedly prepared a resignation letter in advance, as he disagreed with D. Trump. One of the issues on which their views differed was D. Trump’s desire to use 1807 An “act of uprising” that allows the president to deploy US troops to respond to civil unrest over protests against police atrocities. Mr. Esper disagreed.
