Tourism associations: opening of Croatia is welcome, but action from Lithuania is also needed
Lithuanian tourism companies are satisfied with Croatia’s decision to admit Lithuanians into the country without additional restrictions, but for tourists to want to go to this country, Lithuania must also make appropriate decisions, BNS said the heads of the tourism associations interviewed.
“The application of self-isolation is very relevant for tourism. Because if Lithuanians have the opportunity to go to Croatia and rest, but when they return they will have to isolate themselves, it will not bring many benefits for the tourism business,” said Milda Plepytė, Director Executive of the Lithuanian Tourism Association.
“But from what I understood from Prime Minister Saulius Skvernelis, as of Monday, Croatia should be on the list of countries that Lithuania is preparing, from which foreigners can come and self-isolation requirements do not apply,” he added.
The head of the National Association of Tourism Companies Žydrė Gavelienė BNS also emphasized the importance of the lack of self-isolation for returnees.
“In fact, it is very good that Croatia is opening its borders, that is the first good push, which is appreciated. (…) Now it is very important for the Government to guarantee that there is no self-isolation when returning to Lithuania from that country, and that those who want to have access to a coronavirus test, ”said the head of the association.
According to her, it is important for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to rush to issue a new recommendation to travel to Croatia, as this would also help travel agencies to recover.
“In the industrial aspect, it is important to receive information from the Ministry of Foreign Relations in a timely manner, because today we do not know what the ministry thinks, which gives recommendations for traveling or not for traveling to one country or another,” Ž. Gavelienė.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs does not currently recommend going to all foreign countries except Latvia and Estonia, where it is possible to drive and 14 days of self-isolation are not valid on your return.
Ž. Gavelienė also added that Croatia was not at the top of the list of the most popular countries visited by Lithuanians, but compatriots often chose this country.
“Croatia is a wonderful country, Lithuanians love it: they fly it on charter flights, by car, in flight and then renting a car to get to know the country,” said the head of the National Association of Tourism Companies.
Ms Plepytė said that Croatia “would enter one of the seven, six most popular countries”.
4.2 million In Croatia, with a population of just over 2,000 infections and 102 deaths, have been confirmed since the start of the pandemic.
Following the reduction of Croatia’s quarantine measures earlier this month, the country has opened its borders to business-traveling EU citizens and owners. From now on, the citizens of these 10 countries will not have to give any reason to come to Croatia.
Croatian Prime Minister Andrei Plenkovic has indicated that the list of countries will expand as the health situation in other countries improves.
Although air travel remains complicated at the moment, Croatia hopes to attract car travelers from Austria, Hungary or Slovenia.
