Class learns remotely

Vytautas Mitalas, Vilnius’ deputy mayor in charge of education, reported on the COVID-19 case at the M. Mažvydas progymnasium on the social network Facebook on Sunday evening.

“Today, a coronavirus was detected in progymnasium rookie M. Mažvydas in Vilnius. He got infected from a family member and the family was only isolated immediately after learning the results, so the student was no longer in school on Friday.

The entire class will now be covered by distance learning in the near future. The school has been thoroughly disinfected today and tomorrow it will continue to function according to the schedule, because in this case children from different classes did not come into contact, ”the deputy mayor wrote.

Disinfect two schools

As it turned out, even two schools were disinfected: the progymnasium and the gymnasium in Pilaitė, because part of the primary school students who do not fit in the overcrowded M. Mažvydas school study in the latter’s facilities.

The gym, according to the director’s decision, operates remotely on Monday. Pilaitė Gymnasium started this school year applying education in a mixed way: every other day students from different classes come to school. So on Monday, the ninth and tenth graders had to study in the classrooms, and the lessons for the eleventh and twelfth graders are organized remotely. Classes change places on Tuesdays.

“Since the beginning of September, the gym has decided to take lessons every other day for different courses: 9th and 10th graders come to school one day, 11th and 12th graders the next. and tenth grade would come to school this Monday, but the high school principal yesterday, only after hearing the news and not having the exact time to arrive to disinfect the school, did not want to take the risk and decided that the students of ninth and tenth graders would wake up at home today. the whole situation, ” 15 minutes said V. Mitalas.

On Tuesday, as school leaders informed the school, education will proceed according to plan: 11th and 12th grade students are to come to the gym.

The little ones go normally

According to the deputy mayor, the school was disinfected on Sunday, but the gym director’s decision remained in force, as the deputy mayor put it, “to minimize misunderstandings.”

However, progymnasium students for whom classes take place on the gym premises had to choose to attend classes on Monday in the usual way. Only a class that a sick child attends learns remotely.

In social media groups, Pilots shared information that another child was supposedly growing up in the same family, also attending a progymnasium, but that the parents of other students had not yet received information about it.

Neither the directors of M. Mažvydas Progymnasium nor Pilaitė Gymnasium answer the phone.

V. Mitalas said that so far there is no further information on the confirmed cases in the Pilaitė schools, but both schools have been disinfected.

He also participated in soccer training

Rolanda Lingienė, head of the Vilnius department of the National Center for Public Health, told a news conference that a coronavirus infection was detected in a student at a private school over the weekend, resulting in 14 children and two teachers having to isolate yourself.

In Pilaitė, this number is higher: “The child was infected in the home environment, he was in school from September 1 to 3. The entire class and teachers were isolated, a total of 25 people. This case will be included in tomorrow’s statistics as all the formalization is taking place today. Furthermore, according to the epidemiological study, this student was in a soccer training group, so the number of people who came into contact may also increase ”.

According to the epidemiological study, this student was in a soccer training club, so the number of people who have been in contact may increase.

According to R. Lingienė, schools and school communities choose not to live in a new reality with the virus, not to take all necessary protective measures, but to prevent threats that have not yet been identified in advance.

It is also a solution, but it must be said that a situation can be reached very quickly, when the quarantine of the schools themselves will be introduced everywhere in this way. Because currently more than 200 students, parents and teachers have isolated themselves on four days of the school year. If entire classes were isolated, as was tried in the early days, to have no contact with the sick, but only contact with the sick, then imagine what the numbers would be.

It must be said that you will have to live with the virus for a long time, you have to get used to it and take all the precautions of which we, epidemiologists, the Ministry of Education, Science and Sports and the Ministry of Health are fully informed, “said the NVSC representative.

She made no secret of realizing the lack of information, so additional training is promised.

The measures are enough

V. Mitalas assures that there is no shortage of disinfectants and forces to disinfect the premises of educational institutions in Vilnius: “Some of the disinfectants are provided by the schools themselves, because we have allocated a large part of them. But if they run out, the municipality is still determined to assign them. “

We prepared the order ourselves and tried to coordinate it with the NVSC throughout the past week. Unfortunately, last week was not enough to reconcile us, – said V. Mitalas.

The deputy mayor confirmed that there are many problems in the educational community and for everyone, mainly due to the lack of coordinated solutions with the National Center for Public Health (NVSC), which happens when a case of coronavirus infection manifests in the school .

“We have prepared that procedure ourselves and we tried to coordinate that procedure with the NVSC all last week. For us, last week, unfortunately, was not enough to reconcile, so I hope today or tomorrow we can get their approval for an algorithm that specify more precisely what schools have to do when such an event occurs. In any case, although that algorithm has not been agreed upon with the NVSC, and the epidemiologist on duty at the NVSC is not working on the weekend, I think the Yesterday’s case was resolved without problems, ”said V. Mitalas.

And that algorithm specifies what to do when you learn of a confirmed case in the school community: if a student falls ill, the school must immediately identify who that student was in contact with, in what classes, in groups, what risks they had. The school must immediately inform the municipality of such a case. The aspect of communication with the community is also important.

“The school needs to maintain a benevolent relationship with the community, since it is very important that parents are not indifferent to their family finding out about the case and reporting it. While this depends solely on your will in legal terms, good will is very important.

The whole algorithm describes what the school staff has to do. With such a procedure, one would not have to wait for each individual clarification from the NVSC epidemiologists, it would be possible to make quick decisions according to certain rules and then wait for individual assessment ”, said V. Mitalas.

When asked to comment on this, Health Minister Aurelijus Veryga stated that he would not want to comment on issues related to the Vilnius municipality, because Vilnius is constantly experiencing problems, not heard from other municipalities.

There is more than one case in educational institutions.

It is about the importance of the goodwill of parents who 15 minutes Eugenijus Manelis, director of M. Mažvydas Progymnasium, spoke at the studio: “We should all tell the truth. Do not be afraid. Sick child – call immediately, say [spręsim] what to do. That is the responsibility of each one of us. “

On Monday morning, it was reported that kindergarten educator Raseiniai “Saulutė” had fallen ill with COVID-19. Read more here. Cases of illness were also reported in Šiauliai, Raseiniai district.

During the last day, 17 new cases of coronavirus were detected in Lithuania, 9 of them were registered in Vilnius, 4 in Tauragė, 3 in Kaunas and 1 in Marijampolė counties.
