COVID-19 statistics: some “sick” have long since recovered

The mayors of some municipalities are publishing COVID-19 morbidity statistics, which has raised questions: it is estimated that a large proportion of the population that is still officially considered sick is really well recovered, as the disease was confirmed last year .

The mayor of the Kretinga district, Antanas Kalnius, assumes that there may be up to 200 such people in the district and blames the malfunctioning electronic systems for the situation. A similar situation occurs in Širvintos.

Živilė Pinskuvienė, the mayor of the Širvintos district, who spoke about inaccuracies a little earlier, stated that currently changes in the statistics of COVID-19 patients in the Širvintos district municipality are obvious.

“On Friday we had 146 in the general system, there were 115 or 116 on the NVSC list and now, in fact, there are 23 sick people, including today. On Friday, 4 of us got sick, which is one of them.

The National Center for Public Health (NVSC) reported that some of the cases that led to the suspicion of the duration of the illness revealed people who had actually recovered but were considered formally ill.

“NVSC does not diagnose COVID-19 disease, nor can it confirm the fact of death or recovery. This is the competence of doctors. This means that the doctor who monitors the course of the disease can confirm the fact of recovery and evaluate it in the human health history, after evaluating the clinic, that is, the symptoms experienced by the person, as well as the legislation that regulates recovery, that is, when a person can be considered healthy depending on the form of the disease NVSC representative Justina Petravičienė.

NVSC does not diagnose COVID-19 disease nor can it confirm the fact of death or recovery. This is the competence of doctors, – says J.Petravičienė.

Elona Pečiukaitienė, Deputy Director of Economics and Economics at Širvintos Hospital, said that a family doctor can find out about the recovery of a person who has been treated in a hospital only if the resident informs it. This information is not automatically transmitted to the patient’s family doctor.

According to lrt.lt, the heads of the Health Ministry promise to comment on the inaccuracy of patient statistics on Thursday, when they will introduce a new system for calculating patient data.
