According to the latest data provided by the Telšiai Department of the National Public Health Center (NVSC) to Santarve on Monday, 14 district residents have COVID-19 in the Mažeikiai district. This is the highest number of patients in the county. There are two of these diseases in Telšiai District Municipality and three in Plungė District Municipality.
The first cases of COVID-19 in our district have already been identified in three educational institutions. Among the patients are representatives of the Municipal Council and the administration.

There are additional measures

Thirteen sick residents of the district are treated on an outpatient basis, one in a hospital.
Since September 10, when COVID-19 was last reported, 9 new cases have been identified in our area.
Santarvė has already written that the first illness among the students was registered in the Merkeikas Račkauskas gym in Mažeikiai. The infection reached the body of a family whose members suffer from the disease.
The NVSC has decided to apply mandatory isolation to 6 gym teachers and 75 students who had close contacts. Testing is also planned for all people exposed to this infection. In the gym, distance learning applies to fourth graders.
Currently, the question of how it is more convenient for all students and teachers to organize contact person tests is being resolved with the school administration, the municipal administration and the coordinator of the Telšiai mobile point.
“Specialists recommend testing if there are no symptoms, not earlier than 5-7 days after contact,” emphasized Giedrė Ligeikienė, Director of the Telšiai Department.

Did not attend school

There are also rumors in public about other schools with children with COVID-19 infection.
NVSC’s Telšiai department confirmed that a coronavirus infection was detected in two more students from educational institutions in our district: Vyturys Elementary School and Gabija Gymnasium.
“Two students did not visit educational institutions during the possible period of infection. They were in mandatory isolation due to contact with a person with COVID-19.
School leaders are informed, with up-to-date information when they last attended class. As the students did not attend educational institutions during the possible period of infection, no additional measures are needed for the institutions. They carry out the usual measures for this period: hand hygiene, sneezing / coughing (hygiene), managing student flows, reducing contact (both staff and students), cleaning the environment, maintaining distances, use of personal protective equipment , etc. ‘The measures were reported by G. Ligeikienė, Head of the Telšiai Department.
