Vaidas Ramanauskas, CEO of Klaipėda Bus Fleet, confirmed that the driver of the 25-year-old suburban bus operating on the Klaipėda-Jokūbavas route had been infected.

He said the driver was suspected of being infected by another family member, his wife. Upon learning that he had contact with a sick person, the driver was suspended from work two days ago and the test came back positive on Friday. The person, as far as the director knows, feels good.

“We have taken additional security measures, we have informed the drivers, we have returned to pay attention to respecting the distance, we have emphasized that the masks should be worn not only on buses, but also on the territory. We are cooperating with the health center and awaiting their instructions ”, said V. Ramanauskas to the precautions taken by the administration of the bus fleet.

According to him, the driver did not have many contacts with other colleagues, they are currently identified and sent to isolation. According to V. Ramanauskas, his other contacts must be identified and clarified by the specialists of the National Center for Public Health.

At that time, the director of the Klaipėda Public Health Center, Raimundas Grigaliūnas, learned of the infected driver only from the “Open Klaipėda” journalist.

“No one has brought me that information yet, perhaps the department already knows that we are closed for work, the meeting with the ministry has just ended,” he said Friday afternoon. According to him, in Klaipėda in total only 4 infectious disease specialists work with COVID-19 infection, so there is no shortage of jobs.

At the same time, R. Grigaliūnas assured that he would take an immediate interest in this case.

He also mentioned this morning that he had personally urged another bus driver to put on a mask, which made the latter very dissatisfied.

Stops ticket sales on buses

As soon as this information appeared on the portal, Klaipėda Bus Fleet issued a press release.

It says, among other things: “Route 25 occupies a fairly isolated position in the transportation system, it is not connected or very congested, and has its regular commuters in the suburbs. We hope that specialists at the district’s public health center will soon publish recommendations for potentially suburban residents. contacted. The company encourages passengers traveling on both suburban and urban routes to wear masks, sanitize their hands, use contactless payment methods for travel, and maintain the distance possible. As a carrier, we do and will do our best to ensure that the journey is safe. ”

The report was also distributed by Klaipėda Passenger Transport.

At present, we do not have objective data showing an increased risk of infection in public transport in the city of Klaipeda. However, after today’s turbulent event, we are preventing the sale of tickets to Klaipėda city bus drivers as a precautionary measure. We still stop this way of buying tickets on taxi and suburban routes, but it can also be canceled due to new facts.“Says the report.
