There were 17 cases of covid-19 in the district over the weekend. In total, there are 33 patients with the disease in the district. According to Andrius Burnickas, director of the municipal administration of the district, we have obviously felt the first signs of the “Late Effect”: intensively visiting the graves of loved ones, communicating with relatives, the effect of such trips is already being felt. Given a good week has passed since the long weekend, the number of cases is likely to increase further these days. The interlocutor denied the “conspiracy theories” that float in the area: there is no big outbreak in any company or institution. After all, rumors spread in the city that there are several cases of the disease in “Rokiškis cheese”. “Last week, three covid-19 cases were detected in Rokiškis sūry, and they remained. According to unofficial data, there may be another case,” commented A. Burnickas at lunch on Monday, November 9.
Most cases – in the district
At noon on Monday, 33 cases of covid-19 were registered in the Rokiškis district. 17 new cases were detected over the weekend. According to Burnick, most of these patients are people from our area. There are several cases where patients have declared their place of residence in our district, but actually live in large cities.
It is difficult to say how many self-isolate, according to the director of the municipal administration. Without a doubt, quite a few. For those who do not have the conditions to self-isolate, the municipality has set up a premises for it at Island Manor, but there are no people who want to live there before the self-isolation deadline.
According to the interviewee, there is no company or institution with a major outbreak. He categorically denied the rumors floating in the city about diseases in “Rokiškis Sūryje”. “I repeat, there is not a single institution or company that has an abundance of diseases. Three cases are in that company. There are infected personnel in educational institutions. There are also diseases in other companies and institutions ”, said A. Burnickas.
According to the interviewee, there are no sick people among municipal employees. It is true that several employees isolate themselves due to the illness of their loved ones and work remotely.
There is no talk of closing kindergartens
The question of why kindergartens are not closed has sparked much public debate. “Clearly, from an epidemiological point of view, the most optimal solution would be to shut everything down. So how do you live? Burnick asked rhetorically. Once again he explained what is already clear to all. The closure of the kindergartens means that the parents of the babies will not be able to work (at least one will have to carry a sick leave card to take care of the child or children). The companies, the institutions, are not going through the easiest times anyway. What does it mean, for example, to lose some workers in hospitals? How to change them? “There is no talk of closing kindergartens,” said the interlocutor.
And the closure of individual primary education institutions is already under consideration. However, this requires the recommendations of the National Center for Public Health. So far they are not, and if they will be, it will be clear, perhaps, only on Monday until the end of the working day.
The director of the municipal administration of the district explained that he could close the individual educational institutions during the quarantine period even without recommendations, in his order. However, this would mean that parents who stay home to care for their children would not receive sick leave certificates and, at the same time, benefits. Therefore, the order of the director of administration regarding the transition of individual educational institutions to distance education will be only if the above-mentioned recommendations exist.
Closing the borders is not being considered
What are the possible solutions to close the border between Lithuania and Latvia? “According to the epidemiological situation, the Latvians should close the border to us. However, this will not happen in the near future, this possibility is not even being considered,” explained the interlocutor.
Border problems would be linked to difficulties in the movement of goods, which would have repercussions on the economies of countries that are already going through such difficult times.
Shoot a Christmas tree, no holidays
The events of the upcoming Christmas period were also decided on Friday. The closest thing, of course, would be to light a Christmas tree. Advent will begin on the last Sunday in November. Then, it will be possible to schedule a Christmas tree lighting ceremony. According to A. Burnickas, the Christmas tree will be in town, it will be lit on December 4. However, your festive lighting ceremony will be without spectators, mass gatherings. “So far, we are considering how to perform that ceremony remotely,” said the interlocutor.
