According to the latest data, Rožė Perminienė, the head of the municipal health department, the number of cases in Klaipėda is decreasing, but not as one would like. “According to today’s data, Klaipeda ranks sixth among all municipalities in the country. It is still among those where diseases abound,” he said.

Currently some 3,000 people are still sick in Klaipeda, 106 Klaipeda residents have died who have suffered from COVID-19.

According to R. Perminienė, the fact that the number of positive tests received is decreasing is more optimistic: COVID-19 was detected in every 10th test person a few weeks ago. “According to today’s data, 8.6 percent of all tests performed are positive,” said the head of the health department.

The number of patients with a complicated form of coronavirus infection has also decreased: if some 130 patients were staying at the Klaipėda University Hospital a few weeks ago, there were 74 left yesterday.

According to R.Perminienė, all employees of health and social care institutions and pharmacists who have requested it have already received the vaccine against COVID-19 infection.

Vaccinations for teachers will begin in the port city this week. Those who work with children in contact will be vaccinated first. 139 educators expressed their desire to be vaccinated. They can do it at the Seamen’s Health Center or at the Klaipeda Polyclinic.

The vaccination was scheduled to start on Monday, but due to unfavorable weather conditions, the vaccine was not delivered to Klaipeda.

About 240 educators have wanted to take free rapid tests for COVID-19 since Jan.28.
