The company said it was not currently aware that more colleagues in the same Maxima stores would experience symptoms of COVID-19 infection. Disinfection is carried out in the premises of the stores where workers infected with coronavirus worked.
“With the increasing spread of COVID-19 infection in the country, we are also witnessing a significant increase in the number of cases among our employees. We recorded coronavirus infections in five more employees. All workers with COVID-19 receive treatment in other workers who had potentially close contact with counterparts infected by coronavirus have isolated themselves. We are consulting with the National Center for Public Health and, if necessary, we will take the recommended actions, “says Ernesta Dapkienė, Director of the Department of Communication and Image of the Maxima retail chain.
On Monday, October 26, COVID-19 infections were detected at the Maxima X store in Lentvaris, Geležinkelio str. 11A, Maxima X stores in Domeikava (Kaunas district), Vandžiogalos pl. The 106A and Maxima XX stores in Joniškis, Upytės str. 19 employees.
Employees at the Maxima X store in Lentvaris were tested for COVID-19 on October 25. The employee was at work for the last time on Thursday, October 22. Possible close contact was found with a colleague who became isolated.
Employees at the Maxima X store in Domeikava were tested for COVID-19 on October 24. The employee last visited the workplace more than a week ago, on October 18. No close contacts were found.
Employees at the Maxima XX store in Joniškis conducted tests for COVID-19 on October 24. The employee was at work for the last time on Wednesday, October 21. No close contacts were found.
COVID-19 infections have also been reported in employees of two Maxima stores in the capital. Employees of Maxima XX (Ukmergės str. 369) and Maxima X (Ukmergės str. 184) located in the BIG Vilnius shopping center were diagnosed with COVID-19 infection on Sunday, October 25. Both workers were tested for COVID-19 on October 24.
The Maxima XX employee, located in the BIG Vilnius shopping center, last visited the workplace on Tuesday, October 20. Possible close contact was found with a colleague who became isolated. An employee of another Maxima X store in the capital was working for the last time on Wednesday, October 21. Possible close contact was found with two colleagues who were isolated by themselves.
The store premises where the COVID-19 infected workers worked were also fully cleaned and disinfected internally. “Today, we adhere to extremely strict hygiene requirements both in stores and in other departments. Shopping carts, baskets and other miscellaneous surfaces are regularly disinfected, and fresh air circulation is increased to ventilate the store. Employees too are familiar with additional recommendations to avoid direct contact and maintain a safe distance. We encourage our employees to test for COVID-19 for prevention purposes in all municipalities that only organize such tests, ”says E. Dapkienė.
Maxima has special coronavirus insurance for its current and future employees. Employees receive the necessary protective equipment: medical masks or safety shields, gloves, hand disinfectant fluids. Temperature is measured daily for Maxima employees. If employees feel unwell, have symptoms of a cold or the flu, they are asked to stay home.
Since Monday, October 26, in one of the twelve municipalities in the country where the quarantine has been introduced, buyers at Maxima stores have the opportunity to receive a disposable mask for free. So far, free face masks have been distributed in Raseiniai, where the local quarantine has been extended. In municipalities where local quarantine has been introduced, the flow of shoppers to Maxima stores is restricted.
“With the rapid rise of COVID-19 in the country, we understand that the coronavirus can affect everyone. We believe that the preventive protective measures we have taken will help prevent the spread of COVID-19, but it is equally important that each of we feel responsible not only for our own safety, but also for the safety of those around us. Therefore, we invite our customers to be vigilant, to keep a safe distance in stores, not to forget to wear protective masks, to disinfect hands and use free disposable gloves, which can be found at the entrance ”, says E. Dapkienė, Director of the Department of Communication and Image of Maxima.
A total of 37 Maxima workers have been diagnosed with COVID-19 since the start of the coronavirus pandemic, 23 of whom have fully recovered and returned to work. To date, 842 employees of the Maxima retail chain have been investigated for COVID-19. Currently, the test responses of 41 employees are still pending.
