From the latest to lining up a team of doctors to the beds of dozens of coronavirus patients and ensuring that polyclinic patients are accepted during the holidays, these are the challenges of Vilnius, as well as the entire country.
COVID-19 employment and hospital staff

This morning 15 free beds were left for coronavirus patients at the Vilnius City Clinical Hospital (VMKL). It is possible to say “even 15” because VMKL managed to staff for another twenty new beds, and now VMKL has 302 beds equipped with oxygen supply and another 12 beds in RITS departments (all occupied this morning).
But the VMKL team is not fully staffed, an attempt will be made to fill the gap by implementing today’s agreement with the Santara clinics. Santara Clinics has committed to taking over the treatment of patients at the VMKL Pediatric Clinic so that the Pediatric Clinic staff, both doctors and nurses, can be transferred to work in the COVID-19 wards. Young VMKL patients are welcome at the Santara Children’s Hospital Clinics.
Specialists from the Vilnius City Municipality Health Department point out that this decision could be avoided, at least temporarily, with the help of private medical institutions. The private sector, where nearly 100,000 people currently receive primary health care services. Vilnius, at the moment sends its employees only to mobile points. The Vilnius city administration expects to receive an order from the Ministry of Health in the near future, which establishes specific staff quotas that will be guaranteed by these institutions for the general needs of the city.

The decision on the hours of work of the polyclinics in the Christmas and New Year holidays will be made by the State Emergency Operations Center. It is tentatively envisaged that mobile points of sale, polyclinics and all general practitioner surgeries, as well as primary personal health care centers, will have to guarantee the normal admission of patients.
