The deceased was well known to the mayor of the municipality of Neringa, Darius Jasaitis. He told the tv3.lt news portal that to his knowledge the ranger was trying to be treated at his home, but by the time he got to the hospital, it was “too late”.
“I knew him very well. He died on Friday and the sad news reached us that he had died of Covid-19. From what I could hear, the man tried treatment at home, but later it was too late for him to reach the hospital. .
He was a wonderful man, a forester by nature. He loved his country Neringa immensely. Lately he had moved, but we talked very often. He worked as a forester all his life, ”said the mayor.
Aušra Feser, director of the Curonian Spit National Park Directorate, says that A. Laurinaitis has worked in the forest district for more than ten years. Over the years, the man had gained a lot of experience and was happy to share it with his colleagues.
“I had little contact with him, but in reality he was a man who knew a lot, a lot of history, you could ask him, he was a living encyclopedia. We are really losing a person and at the same time a lot of history, ”says A. Feser.
According to the head of management, he worked with A. Laurinaitis only for a couple of years. A. Laurinaitis left the forest district a few years ago, but due to his personal qualities, his companions will be remembered for a long time.
“It just came to our knowledge then. He was a man of so much energy, full of health,” says A. Feser.
