In Brazil, a new record number of victims per day since the COVID-19 outbreak began

Brazil announced a new high number of daily deaths from COVID-19 coronavirus infection on Wednesday since the outbreak began one day after the previous highest death rate in the country most affected by the pandemic in Latin America.

Data from the Ministry of Health shows that 1,349 people have died in Brazil in the last day, with approximately 1,262 coronavirus victims reported on Tuesday.

The total number of deaths from COVID-19 in Brazil increased to 32,548 and the number of confirmed infections to 584,016. According to the latter, the country is the second in the world after the United States.

In Brazil, the number of coronavirus victims has doubled in the last 17 days and is the fourth highest in the world after the United States, the United Kingdom and Italy.

Experts say 210 million. The COVID-19 test is too low in a country with a high population, so the actual number of infected people is probably much higher.

However, President Jair Bolsonaro has fiercely criticized the restrictions imposed on the coronavirus, although the number of infected people and victims in Brazil continues to increase.

The far-right leader asked the business to declare a “war” with state governors, who ordered the companies closed. According to Bolsonar, these restrictions cause unnecessary damage to the largest economy in Latin America.

Bolsonaro, who previously said that a coronavirus outbreak is like “reducing the flu,” appears to be uniting hopes of overcoming COVID-19 with the antimalarials chloroquine and hydroxychloroquine.

Since the start of the pandemic in Brazil, two health ministers have resigned. Bolsonaro fired one of them for disapproving of the president’s recommendations to treat coronavirus infection with hydroxychloroquine, although scientists have not reached a consensus on the safety and efficacy of the drug as a COVID-19 agent.

Former Deputy Assistant Minister of Health, Luiz Henrique Mandetta, Joao Gabbardo, told the AFP news agency that a complex epidemiological scenario is now developing in Brazil and that the spread of COVID-19 varies from region to region.

“We have several curves,” Gabbardo said, adding that a similar situation could occur in Brazil as in Italy, where “many deaths occurred in the north but not in the south.”

Brazil has so far been the most affected by the southeast, the commercial and industrial corridor, which includes São Paulo and Rio de Janeiro. The poor northern region, including the Amazon, where a particularly vulnerable local indigenous community lives, has also been greatly affected.
