The city council is considering extending the benefits to cultural and sports establishments, allowing them to continue without paying rent until they can resume operations due to quarantine restrictions.

The capital’s politicians began this week to consider a proposal that the tax companies could not pay as of January 1, until the activities of these institutions are prohibited by the quarantine restrictions introduced in the country.

The decision would apply to 23 cultural and four sports organizations.

Some council members called for the firing of all tenants who are currently suspended due to restrictions. Mayor Remigijus Šimašius broadly supports the proposal and invited the committees to consider the possibility of adopting a joint decision on health, sports or other institutions.

If rents for cultural institutions are waived, the Vilnius municipality budget would lose around LTL 18.5 thousand. EUR per month, sports facilities would be exempt from almost 1.9 thousand euros. taxes in euros.

Last year, the city council also exempted from renting cultural and sports facilities. Then, according to the municipality, 56 cultural institutions and 113 sports clubs were exempt from rent.
