Conservatives and liberals to start talks on a new coalition on Thursday

At the Presidium meeting, the Conservatives intend to discuss the political situation and decide on the principles and priority works for the formation of the coalition.

TS-LKD President Gabrielius Landsbergis told reporters that this will be the first meeting of the party’s presidium after the Seimas elections.

But even more so, to have a discussion about what that new government should be, what, for example, the principles of transparency, what transparency requirements should even be imposed on its future work, what should be the communication with the public and the media. “We believe that a certain standard must be confirmed, regardless of how that coalition is formed and what ministers are there, so that those standards apply to everyone,” commented the TS-LKD president.

According to G.Landsbergis, discussions with future coalition partners on content are left to Ingrida Šimonyte, delegate of the Conservatives to the Prime Minister.

The Liberal Movement approved the negotiating team

Viktorija Čmilytė-Nielsen, the chairperson of the Liberal Movement, currently in self-isolation due to the coronavirus threat, joining the new ruling coalition, wrote on her Facebook account that the party meeting held on Tuesday night discussed the liberal positions and the basic principles to be included in the coalition.

The Liberal Movement will be represented by a negotiating team in conversations with partners. It is made up of the party president, V.Čmilytė-Nielsen, and his deputies Edita Rudelienė, Simonas Gentvilas, Simonas Kairys and the vice-president of the Seimas Liberal Movement faction, Ričardas Juška.

The Freedom Party will expand the list of expectations

The Freedom Party circulated a list of expectations, which should be reflected in the coalition agreement, on the night of the Seimas elections.

Includes: no increase in personal income tax, commitment to hold a referendum on multiple citizenship, legalization of the inclusion of personal names on the main page of documents in all letters of the Latin alphabet, decriminalization of the possession of psychoactive substances without the purpose of distribution in 100 days, legalization of same-sex and same-sex couples.

The president of the Freedom Party Aušrinė Armonaitė on Wednesday 15 minutes stated that this list will be somewhat longer.

“It will be expanded a little because there are more things, but these are considered basic,” said the politician.

He did not rule out that the party will seek to include the objectives set not only in the coalition agreement, but also in the government’s program.

According to A. Armonaitė, the negotiations on the portfolios of the ministries are not yet taking place: “I think it is completely natural that the coalition agreement is discussed first and then observed.”

In the coalition negotiations, the Freedom Party will be represented by the aforementioned A. Armonaitė, the mayor of Vilnius Remigijus Šimašius, a member of the municipal council of the capital Vincas Jurgutis and elected to the Seimas Vytautas Mitalas and Ieva Pakarklytė.

The center-right coalition that is being formed will have 74 seats in the new Seimas. TS-LKD won 50 parliamentary seats, the Liberal Movement won 13 seats, and the Freedom Party won 11 seats.
