“What is happening at the moment due to the isolation of the members of the Seimas is not in conflict with the Constitution of Lithuania? It clearly regulates how the powers of a member of the Seimas can be limited. No ministerial order can do that, especially an institution A member of the Seimas must fulfill his functions, regardless of the misfortune that shook the country. His service to Lithuania cannot be limited by decisions of lower instances.

Especially since, for example, liberal politicians are isolated even with negative evidence. And for them, the conditions to get out of isolation are dictated by the NVSC (National Center for Public Health. By the way, by making mistakes, as we saw yesterday when we wanted to isolate three more politicians. This situation seems abnormal to me. I think there are more than a way to ensure safety The work of a member of the Seimas without endangering other people in the Seimas ”, wrote V. Čmilytė Nielsen on Facebook.

The president of Seimas promises to organize a debate with experts on this situation in the coming days. Both with the law and with health.

“The Seimas is the main representation of the Lithuanian people. Interference in their work by eliminating members of the Seimas is a threat to the Constitution. This should also be made very clear to the ministers, whether they are temporarily in office or not. We must respect the most important law of the land and not set a precedent that paralyzes our Parliament so easily, ”said V. Čmilytė Nielsen

The president of the Seimas was also criticized by the acting Minister of Health, Aurelijus Veryga.

“And A. Veryga, obviously, is not willing to cooperate with Seimas, because I did not receive an answer to my query this week. It is also an abnormal situation,” said V. Čmilytė Nielsen.

Delfi recalls that during the spread of the coronavirus, A. Veryga offered Seimas to suspend work for a couple of weeks. The president of Seimas, who did not agree with such a proposal, asked the minister for recommendations on how to work safely.
